English Lecturer – Further Education College

Ace Academics is seeking a passionate and experienced English Lecturer / Functional Skills English Tutor to join a reputable Further Education college based in Wolverhampton.

This opportunity would suit a qualified English Teacher, GCSE English Lecturer or Functional Skills English Tutor with a strong background in delivering engaging lessons and supporting learners towards achieving their English qualifications.

The successful candidate will teach English to post-16 learners and potentially adult students, helping them develop essential literacy, communication, reading and writing skills within a supportive college environment.

Key Responsibilities

* Plan and deliver engaging GCSE English Language and Functional Skills English lessons.

* Teach across appropriate levels, potentially including Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2 Functional Skills.

* Support GCSE English resit learners in developing examination techniques and achieving target grades.

* Deliver lessons covering reading comprehension, creative writing, transactional writing, spelling, punctuation and grammar (SPaG).

* Develop learners' speaking, listening and communication skills through practical classroom activities.

* Adapt teaching methods to support students with different abilities, learning needs and educational backgrounds.

* Assess learner progress, provide constructive feedback and maintain accurate records.

* Prepare students for GCSE examinations and Functional Skills English assessments.

* Create a positive, inclusive and motivating learning environment.

Essential Requirements

* Relevant qualification in English, English Language, English Literature or a closely related subject.

* Recognised teaching qualification such as PGCE, Cert Ed, DTLLS, QTS or QTLS, or equivalent relevant teaching experience.

* Previous experience delivering GCSE English, Functional Skills English or English within an educational setting.

* Good understanding of GCSE English Language and/or Functional Skills English curriculum requirements.

* Strong literacy, communication and classroom management skills.

* Ability to motivate and engage learners with varying levels of confidence and ability.

* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults.

Desirable Experience

* Previous experience teaching within a Further Education college, sixth form or adult learning environment.

* Experience delivering GCSE English Language resit programmes.

* Experience teaching Functional Skills English at Level 1 and Level 2.

* Familiarity with Pearson Edexcel, AQA or other recognised awarding bodies.

* Experience supporting learners with additional learning needs, including SEND or ESOL backgrounds.
