The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a leading infrastructure and civil engineering contractor delivering major projects across the South West.
This role offers the chance to take ownership of the commercial management of significant civil engineering works, working closely with project delivery teams to ensure commercial success from project inception through to final account. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing contractual obligations, driving financial performance, and maintaining strong relationships with clients and supply chain partners.
This position would suit a commercially focused professional who enjoys working within complex infrastructure environments and is looking to further develop their career within a well-established and growing organisation.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead the commercial management of assigned projects, ensuring contractual and financial interests are protected at all times.
· Manage subcontract procurement activities, including tender preparation, evaluation, negotiation, and appointment.
· Prepare and manage valuations, applications for payment, cost reports, forecasts, budgets, and cash flow projections.
· Identify, assess, and manage variations, change events, and contractual entitlements.
· Monitor project costs and performance, identifying risks, opportunities, and efficiency improvements.
· Administer subcontract accounts, including payments, variations, re-measurement, and final account settlements.
· Support project mobilisation and close-out activities, ensuring robust commercial controls and accurate record keeping.
· Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
· Provide guidance and mentoring to junior commercial team members where required.
Candidate Requirements
· Proven experience operating at Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor level within civil engineering, infrastructure, highways, or related sectors.
· Strong understanding of NEC forms of contract and commercial management principles.
· Demonstrable experience in subcontract procurement, cost management, and commercial reporting.
· Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
· Strong analytical and financial management capabilities.
· Ability to work collaboratively within project teams while maintaining commercial accountability.
· Relevant degree qualification or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
· Membership of a relevant professional body (or working towards) would be advantageous.
