Role Description

Due to our continued growth we are now recruiting for a Battery Assembly Process Engineer to be based at our customer’s site in Wolverhampton.

Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that is assembled to work on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialized engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.

We have an opportunity for a highly experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join the Manufacturing Engineering (ME) team within the Engines, Batteries and Drives team. This team supports future electrification developments in support of the Customer range of vehicle and you will be involved with developing new, technologically advanced electric propulsion systems.

The ME department is responsible for the development and introduction of new and modified processes and facilities associated with new model introductions and model year changes, within assembly & test. You will be part of the Assembly and Test, Electric Manufacturing Engineering team, working closely with Product Development Engineers, facility vendors and suppliers to ensure that component and whole propulsion designs meet world class quality and efficiency standards.

This role may involve European & overseas travel.

This role will provide engineering and technical support to design, develop and implement manufacturing production processes to enable successful launch of new products, ensuring feasibility of all designs to suit manufacturing build requirements, Design for Assembly (DFA) and compliance with the Bill of Process (BOP). This includes the creation of process, delivery of tools, jigs & fixtures, quality, data analysis and reporting of major issues, deployment of failure mode avoidance tools, support of cross-functional teams in the resolution of those issues on projects and the tracking of resolution through to completion.

Experience & Skills Required
  • Proven experience in project controls within manufacturing, engineering, or automotive environments
  • Strong understanding of project planning, scheduling, and cost control principles
  • Experience in performance reporting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Familiarity with project control tools (e.g. MS Project, Primavera or similar)
  • Experience with SAP cost management (desirable)
  • Knowledge of risk management and change control processes
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent stakeholder communication and influencing abilities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Project Managers and cross-functional teams
  • Relevant qualification or training in project controls or project management (e.g. APM, PMQ or equivalent desirable)
Responsibilities
  • You will utilise your knowledge to develop and implement assembly and in-process test processes and facilities to deliver the safety, quality delivery and cost objectives.
  • Detailed planning, development and implementation of installation timing plans with key suppliers.
  • Work within a team of engineers responsible for the planning and implementation of new and major changes to Module and Battery pack unit assembly and test lines.
  • Provide feasibility statements for Product Development designs to suit manufacturing build requirements.
  • Ensure robust process planning including build simulations and PFMEAs.
  • Support virtual build events raising and championing issues where appropriate.
  • Support of physical builds at workshop, pilot build and Manufacturing Plant locations, raising and managing issues where appropriate.
  • Support assembly process strategy for manufacturing.
  • Feasibility of design to suit modern assembly and test requirements.
  • Assembly process & equipment verification at suppliers and at manufacturing facility.
  • Application of Lean manufacturing & design for assembly principles.
  • Develop capable processes ensuring built-in quality.
