Highly Specialised Cardiac Physiologist - CRM/EP

Provide advanced, autonomous clinical practice in cardiac rhythm management (CRM) and electrophysiology (EP) to deliver safe, effective, patient-centred care. The post-holder will independently undertake complex device follow-up and programming (PPM, ICD, CRT-P/D), support device implant/upgrade procedures, manage remote monitoring workflows, and provide in-lab support for diagnostic EP studies and catheter ablation. The role includes clinical governance, audit, quality improvement, training and supervision of staff, and participation in extended-day/on-call arrangements as required.

Cross-site working will be required to meet service needs across Trust locations

Main duties of the job

Provide advanced clinical expertise in Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) and Electrophysiology (EP), acting autonomously within agreed protocols.

Independently perform complex device follow-up and programming for pacemakers (PPM), implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD), and cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT-P/D), including troubleshooting and optimisation.

Support device implant and upgrade procedures, including peri-procedural testing, safe programming, and post-operative optimisation.

Remote monitoring services, triaging alerts, taking appropriate clinical action, and ensuring accurate documentation.

Deliver in-lab support for EP procedures, including diagnostic studies and catheter ablations (e.g., AF, SVT), operating mapping systems, analysing intracardiac signals, and assisting with stimulation protocols.

Anticipate and respond to peri-procedural complications/

Involvement in clinical governance activities, including audit, incident review, and quality improvement projects.

Provide teaching, training, and supervision for junior physiologists, trainees, and cath lab staff; act as a role model for professional standards.

Contribute to service development, including pathway redesign, adoption of new technologies (e.g., conduction system pacing).

Participate in extended day and/or on-call rotas and cross-site working to meet service needs.

Maintain compliance with IR(ME)
R, radiation safety, infection prevention, and safeguarding policies.
