Job summary

We are delighted to offer this Dietitian post within the Adult Dietetic Team at Newcastle Hospitals until 31 March 2027. This is an exciting opportunity to develop your skills and experience within a supportive and friendly team. Previous dietetic experience is desirable but not essential, as comprehensive training and support will be provided. In this role, you will manage an inpatient caseload across a range of specialties, including general medicine, cardiothoracic, gastroenterology and others, alongside regular outpatient clinics.

You will provide nutritional care for patients requiring oral nutritional support, enteral feeding and specialist therapeutic diets, while developing your clinical knowledge and skills across a broad range of conditions.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be required to:

  • Deliver a high standard of dietetic assessment, treatment and care planning for patients across a range of clinical specialties.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, carers, colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team to provide safe and effective nutritional care.
  • Provide education and training to healthcare professionals, patients and carers as appropriate.
  • Contribute to audit, quality improvement, service development and research activities within the department and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Participate in the training and support of dietetic students and other learners.
  • Maintain and develop their professional knowledge and skills through continuing professional development and reflective practice.
  • Manage and prioritise their workload effectively, seeking support when required.

Job responsibilities
  • Deliver a comprehensive and effective clinical nutrition and dietetic service to patients at hospital sites or in the community.
  • Provide dietetic assessment, diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and management in the clinical setting.
  • Act as a source of expertise in nutrition support and dietetics to patients, consultant medical staff, other health care professionals, carers and relatives.
  • Deliver education and training to other healthcare staff and to patient groups.
  • Participate in team, multi-disciplinary audit and research.
Qualifications & Education Essential
  • Health Professions Council Registered Dietitian
  • Degree in Dietetics or Science/Nutrition Degree plus Post-graduate Diploma in Dietetics
  • Valid UK Driving Licence
Desirable
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate
Knowledge & Experience Essential
  • Knowledge of and experience in areas of general dietetics such as nutrition support, weight management, diabetes, in a range of clinical areas as evidenced via clinical placements or previous dietetic employment. Evidence of continuous professional development
  • Evidence of developing knowledge in order to provide cover for specialist dietitians without supervision
