Job Summary
This hybrid role combines technical support for Pathology IT systems with advanced development responsibilities in Microsoft Power Platform, Business Intelligence (BI/MI), and Data Science. The post holder will ensure the reliability, security, and efficiency of Pathology systems while designing and delivering innovative digital solutions to improve workflows, reporting, and data-driven decision-making. In addition, the post holder will act as Site Lead for one of the BCPS (Black Country Pathology Services) sites, providing local leadership for IT and digital initiatives, coordinating with stakeholders, and ensuring smooth delivery of services across the site.
Mainduties
The Pathology IT Manager ensures all pathology systems meet operational and user needs while integrating seamlessly with Trust systems. Key duties include maintaining system interfaces, resolving technical issues, and monitoring infrastructure for stability and performance. The role focuses on automation and development using Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate) to streamline workflows, alongside creating Power BI dashboards for actionable insights. Responsibilities include SQL development, SSIS for ETL processes, SSRS reporting, and API-driven data integration.
Data management tasks involve extracting, validating, and transforming datasets, ensuring integrity, and producing reports. Advanced analytics include predictive modeling, machine learning, and anomaly detection using Python or R. Acting as site lead, the role coordinates local IT support, represents the site in BCPS projects, and supports Trust-wide digital transformation while ensuring compliance with NHS data governance standards.

Effective communication with internal teams and external suppliers is essential, translating technical concepts for diverse audiences and supporting the specification and installation of Pathology related devices.
Development and automation are central to the role, with a focus on designing and deploying Power Platform solutions (Power Apps, Power Automate) to streamline workflows. The position also involves creating and maintaining Power BI dashboards for actionable insights, automating data flows between LIMS, Trust systems, and external platforms using APIs, and ensuring compliance with NHS data governance and security standards. Additionally, SQL-based development, SSIS for ETL processes, and SSRS for advanced reporting are key components for managing and presenting data effectively.
Data management responsibilities include extracting, validating, and transforming complex datasets, monitoring data integrity, and producing regular and ad-hoc reports for clinical and operational teams. Advanced analytics tasks involve applying predictive modeling, machine learning, and statistical techniques to Pathology data, developing algorithms for forecasting and anomaly detection, and integrating outputs into dashboards using tools like Python or R.
As a site lead, the role acts as the primary IT contact for one BCPS site, coordinating local IT support, representing the site in BCPS-wide projects, and ensuring effective communication with the central Pathology IT team. Additionally, the position requires active engagement in Trust-wide digital transformation projects, collaborating with technical teams for solution integration, and providing clear communication and training to non-technical stakeholders.
