We are looking for a professional, hardworking, experienced practice nurse to join our friendly and supportive Northway Medical Centre Practice team. We welcome applications from nurses with a passion for delivering high-quality patient care, with an interest in diabetes management desirable.
This role offers part-time working of 18 hours per week, with a preference for Monday 8:30am to 6:30pm. There would be scope to build in additional working hours on Tuesday, if agreeable. Opportunities to work additional hours on Saturday mornings may also be available.

Main duties of the jobOur Practice nurse team at Northway Medical Centre are seen as vital members of the multidisciplinary primary care team. They provide preventive care, diagnose common illnesses, and manage long‑term conditions across all patient life stages. Day‑to‑day duties typically include health screenings, wound care, immunisations, and running specialised clinics.
Key Responsibilities- Chronic Disease Management:
Running clinics for conditions like asthma, COPD, and diabetes in line with Dudley QOF - Women & Sexual Health:
Performing cervical cytology screening, breast awareness education, and family planning/contraception services. - Treatments & Procedures:
Wound management, phlebotomy, administering adult and child immunisations, ECGs, and travel health advice. - Clinical Governance:
Following national/local guidelines, auditing care standards, and accurately updating patient records in EMIS Web. - Leadership & Mentoring:
Delegating tasks to Healthcare Assistants (HCAs), assisting in the mentoring of students. - Provide patient assessments, treatment, advice and ongoing care.
- Administer vaccinations, immunisations, and prescribed medications.
- Conduct health screenings, routine checks and chronic disease reviews/management.
- Manage long‑term conditions including diabetes, asthma and hypertension.
- Undertake wound care, dressings and cervical screening.
- Promote health education, prevention and well‑being.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and support infection control practices.
- Collaborate with GPs and the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver evidence‑based care in line with professional standards and guidelines.
- Maintain professional standards in line with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Professional Conduct.
- Safeguarding responsibilities.
Northway Medical Centre based in Sedgley look after about 8,350 patients. We have 3 partners, 3 salaried GPs along with Paramedics, PAs and GP registrars. Our current experienced nurse team consists of a practice nurse and associate practitioner. We are a training practice and our recent CQC Inspection in April this year was rated Good. We achieved 99% in our DQOF long‑term condition management.
ExperienceEssential
- Competence in core general practice skills including immunisation and vaccination, cervical cytology, wound care, dressings, phlebotomy, administration of medicines and health promotion and screening.
- Knowledge of safeguarding, infection control and clinical governance.
- Ability to work independently and as part of the multidisciplinary team.
- Previous experience in a GP or primary care setting.
- Experience of managing complex diabetes, to include insulin and GLP1 starts, ongoing monitoring and use of continuous glucose monitoring.
- Experience supervising students and Healthcare Assistants.
- Registered Nurse with current active registration on the NMC register.
- Degree, Diploma or equivalent qualification in nursing.
- GPN certificate or Primary Care qualification.
- Certificate, diploma or equivalent in Diabetes management.
- Independent/Supplementary Prescribing.
- An additional relevant qualification (e.g. travel health, mentor/practice assessor, contraception).
