Sister/Charge Nurse Interventional Radiology

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse to join our friendly and dynamic Interventional Radiology team at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust. Our expanding service delivers a wide range of elective day-case and urgent inpatient procedures, including vascular angioplasty, fistula work, Hickman line insertion, biopsies, nephrostomies, biliary interventions and embolisation. The role also includes responsibility for the recovery unit, ensuring safe and effective post-procedure care.

As part of the Black Country Provider Partnership, we work collaboratively with neighbouring trusts to provide a 24/7 on-call service for haemorrhage control and the management of life-threatening sepsis. You will play a key role in supporting this service and maintaining high clinical standards.

In this leadership role, you will support the nursing team through staff development, appraisals, rota management, recruitment and governance. You will supervise junior staff and students, act as a competency assessor and deputise for the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse, ensuring professional standards and high-quality patient care are consistently delivered.

We offer a supportive multidisciplinary team, access to nursing forums and corporate events, Band 6 development days and encouragement for academic study and continuing professional development.

Please note:

this post involves working with ionising radiation and requires the use of lead protective equipment.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse, you will demonstrate enthusiasm and leadership to support service development and continuous improvement. You will promote effective teamwork within a multidisciplinary environment and contribute to the delivery of a high-quality clinical service, working closely with the Band 7 to support and implement change.

You will act as Nurse in Charge for the shift, overseeing day-to-day service delivery, including staff allocation, rota support and operational management. You will also undertake staff management responsibilities, including appraisals, sickness and absence management, and supporting staff wellbeing and development in line with Trust policies.

The role includes participation in conscious sedation and the delivery of pre-, intra- and post-procedure care for patients undergoing elective and emergency interventional radiology procedures.
