Job Purpose

To provide high-quality, person-centred nursing care that reflects the philosophy, values, and standards of the Home

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse (RGN/RMN) with active NMC PIN without any restrictions to practise Minimum 1-year nursing experience.
  • Knowledge Knowledge of NMC Standards of Proficiency Medicines management knowledge Understanding safeguarding and CQC and CI regulations Knowledge of dementia, mental health, and long-term conditions

Hours Of Duty

Flexible shifts as rostered including weekends and bank holidays

Principal Responsibilities
  • Ensure comprehensive assessment of service users’ needs, and lead on the development, implementation, and evaluation of personalised programmes of care, ensuring all interventions are fully and accurately documented.
  • Monitor, review, and maintain accurate electronic care plans and eMAR systems, ensuring all clinical information is current and compliant.
  • Maintain safe and effective administration of medications in accordance with NMC standards and the company policies, promptly reporting any errors or concerns to the Senior Nurse/appropriate manager.
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and timely nursing and home records in line with professional and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure care practices reflect NMC standards, promoting ongoing review, development, and evidence-based practice.
  • Monitor the use of all resources to ensure safe, cost‑effective, and efficient care delivery appropriate to the needs of residents.
  • Maintain regular personal contact with residents through one‑to‑one interactions and group activities to support wellbeing.
  • Liaise effectively with GPs, external healthcare professionals, families, and other stakeholders to promote coordinated, high‑quality care.
  • Ensure all visiting professionals are appropriately recorded.
Leadership & Operational Responsibilities
  • Take charge of the Home when required in the absence of the designated person with overall responsibility.
  • Undertake on‑call duties as required, providing guidance and support to staff across the Home.
  • Ensure effective handovers and promote clear communication between all grades of staff to ensure continuity and quality of resident care.
  • Report any shortfalls, risks, or concerns related to service delivery or resident safety to the person in charge or management team promptly.
  • Support internal audits and quality monitoring processes as required.
  • Help ensure the Home remains compliant with relevant regulatory bodies, including the Care Inspectorate (CI) in Scotland or the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in England.
  • Promote the Home positively, supporting marketing and reputation-building activities as required.
  • Adhere to and promote all Abbey Healthcare policies and procedures.
  • Uphold the NMC Code of Conduct at all times.
Education & Professional Development
  • Support the induction, orientation, and ongoing training of new and existing staff, promoting a positive learning environment.
  • Contribute to the continuous professional development of the Home by supporting evidence‑based practice and undertaking personal professional development.
  • Ensure your NMC registration, PIN, and revalidation requirements are maintained and up to date.
  • Attend and complete all mandatory training, in‑house training sessions, and required E-learning modules.
Communication & Team Support
  • Attend staff, clinical, and multidisciplinary meetings, ensuring relevant information is communicated clearly to the wider team.
  • Maintain positive and effective communication with all professionals, residents, relatives, and stakeholders involved in the care and management of the Home.
  • Provide professional support and leadership to all grades of staff, fostering teamwork, respect and high standards of care.
