Pre-Operative Assessment Nurse *Pending AFC evaluation

This pre-operative assessment nurse post at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust carries responsibility for its own caseload and clinic. The work centres on assessing patients independently, deciding which investigations to request, such as ECGs and lung function tests, and referring patients on to specialists including consultant anaesthetists. As an autonomous practitioner, the post-holder is professionally and legally accountable for their own clinical decisions.

Applicants need current NMC registration as an adult nurse and pre-op experience.

• Hold responsibility for own caseload and clinic
• Assess patients independently using clinical reasoning
• Determine clinical indication and independently request investigations such as echocardiograms, ECGs, lung function tests and blood tests
• Interpret investigation results for patients
• Refer patients appropriately to other health professionals, including consultant anaesthetists and diabetic specialists
• Manage patients using investigations, clinical reasoning and evidence-based practice
• Communicate with patients who have a different first language, using interpreters where needed
• Follow clinical guidelines and protocols within speciality and in line with national guidance
• Take professional and legal accountability for own work and the patients in their care
