Position: Future Steps Mentor

Future Steps Mentor

Permanent Full Time Post (37 hours). Grade 6 salary £36,363 – £40,777.

The Future Steps Team works with parents who have had one or more children removed from their care. It is a multi‑agency team focusing on addressing the gap in support experienced by parents between a child’s removal from care and any future pregnancy. Through an intense programme of support, it aims to break this cycle and give women and men the opportunity to reflect, tackle destructive patterns of behaviour, and develop new skills and responses that help them create a more positive future.

The aim is to provide ongoing, flexible, person‑centred support focusing on each parent’s individual needs.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for implementing a range of interventions and support measures as part of an integrated package of health, therapeutic and social support.
  • Address the complex needs of women and men through intensive support, to enable change in their lives and ultimately reduce the number of children being removed into care.
  • Work systemically in delivering a relationship‑based programme where frequency, tenacity and creativity are central.
  • Manage a caseload of complex cases and adopt a flexible and creative approach.

Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a related subject such as Education, Health, Social Care or Criminal Justice.
  • Achievement of English and Maths or equivalent to Level 2 of the National Qualification Framework.
  • Minimum of 2 years post‑qualification, recent experience in a relevant field (Education, Social Care, Criminal Justice).
  • Recent experience working with individuals who present with complex needs, including mental health challenges, drug and alcohol misuse and domestic violence.
  • Demonstrate an ability to create rapport and build effective relationships.
