Do you want to make a real difference to children and families affected by domestic abuse?

We’re looking for dedicated Family Help Workers to join our team and make a meaningful difference to families experiencing domestic abuse.

In this role, you will:
  • Work holistically with children, parents, caregivers, and perpetrators of domestic abuse, offering both practical and emotional support.
  • Provide direct guidance to help families understand the dynamics behind harmful behaviours and reduce their impact.
  • Act as an advocate, ensuring individuals understand their options and can access the right services at the right time.
  • Build trusting relationships and create a safe, non-judgemental space for people to share their experiences.
  • Play a vital role in creating positive, lasting change for those affected by domestic abuse.
What you will be doing:
  • Act as the Lead Practitioner in cases where domestic abuse is present, providing advice, guidance, and specialist insight. You’ll also attend relevant training and share your learning with the wider workforce.
  • Work holistically with children, young people, and their families—including perpetrators—to strengthen relationships, reduce risks, and support positive behavioural change, helping prevent significant harm.
  • Undertake or contribute to multi‑agency assessments for children and families who need help and support.
  • Adopt a preventative, early‑intervention approach when supporting children, young people, and families.
  • Manage a caseload, carrying out both individual and group work using a flexible, creative, and strengths‑based approach.
Key Requirements

We’re seeking caring, committed professionals with the skills and experience to make a positive impact. You’ll need:

  • A Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant field such as Education, Health, Social Care, Community Development, CACHE (NNEB), BTEC National Diploma in Nursery Nursing, RGN or a Diploma in Youth & Community Work.
  • English and Maths at Level 2 (or equivalent).
  • Significant post‑qualifying experience in a relevant field—such as Education, Social Care or Early Years—supporting children and families through both group and individual interventions.
  • Experience working within diverse communities, completing assessments of need and contributing to community development activities.

If you’re caring, resilient, and ready to make an impact, we’d love to hear from you. Your compassion and expertise can help shape safer futures for families in our community.

Our working arrangements

All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style. Some roles are agile which enable and empower employees to maximize their performance and productivity, whilst maintaining a healthy work‑life balance. Roles with a fixed workstyle work in a fixed permanent council location. Roles with a field workstyle are usually allocated where employees are required to be out working in the community with a minimum requirement for 'touch down' space at any council location.

Roles with a flexible workstyle have a flexible base location to meet the needs of the business and employees can work from a mixture of home or any council office, partner/client, or external location, as required to meet service requirements.

Please refer to the Job Description for further information on the workstyle assigned to the role you are applying for.
