Portfolio Analyst

Overview

As a Portfolio Analyst at Drax, you will help design, build and manage optimisation models with the aim of creating value for electricity supply customers via flexibility. This role sits within DESL and involves close collaboration with trading teams to optimise the DESL power position and related hedging activities.

• Operation and management of DESL's power position, combining our retail contract position with the traded contract position in line with DESL's Hedging Policy
• Daily near-term/day-ahead position management and trading
• Long-term position management following close collaboration with the trading activities of the Flex team
• Liaising with the DPL trading team on wholesale market prices and opportunities to better balance the DESL position

• Excellent numeracy skills with particular attention to speed, accuracy and attention to detail
• A basic knowledge of the UK & European Power Markets
• Ability to develop models from first principles and sense-check outputs
• Ability to apply analytical techniques in a sensible, pragmatic way and understand their limitations
• The ability to make quick and concise trading decisions whilst maintaining attention to detail
• Intermediate/Advanced Excel skills
• A working knowledge of coding languages such as Python/VBA/SQL

As a Portfolio Analyst at Drax, your role is to carry out a range of activities to ensure effective management of Drax Energy Solutions (DESL) Power Position. This includes daily position management tasks whilst liaising with colleagues from Drax Power Limited (DPL) looking for opportunities to improve the effectiveness of our wholesale contract trading (both prompt and curve). You'll also support the wider goals of the Pricing and Hedging.
