Overview
The US Oncology Network, through its affiliate Virginia Cancer Specialists, is seeking a Full‑Time Medical Assistant for our Woodbridge office. This position offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, paid holidays, and a 401(k) retirement plan.
Responsibilities- Escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment rooms as appropriate.
- Record patient data prior to each physician visit, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
- Obtain all necessary patient records as required by the physician before treatment or procedures, and prepare and stock exam/treatment rooms and order supplies as needed.
- Assist physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
- Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, as delegated by RN or physician.
- Maintain all exam/treatment room disinfection protocols.
- Answer patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
- Process prescriptions and make other patient calls as directed by physicians and RN.
- Inform physician of patient reschedules and no‑shows.
- Perform additional administrative duties such as typing, filing, faxing, chart preparation, and reception as requested by supervisor or physician.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Certificate of graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Minimum three years’ experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant.
- Phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred.
The role requires full range of body motion, handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye‑hand coordination. The incumbent must stand and walk for extensive periods, occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 40 lbs, and use corrected vision and hearing within normal limits.
Work EnvironmentWork is performed in an oncology/hematology clinic environment that may expose staff to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and medical preparations.
