Rutgers University Correctional Health Care is seeking a Per Diem Staff Nurse for the Adult Diagnostic Treatment Center, located in Avenel, NJ. The UCHC Staff Nurse utilizes the nursing process to meet a variety of health care needs with ambulatory care as a primary focus; works with a variety of health care professionals and security officers in a correctional environment; frequently functions guided by nursing protocols;
and functions as a team leader as assigned.
- Provides direct and indirect nursing care to meet physiological, psychosocial and emotional needs of the inmate patient including adults (18 to 64 years) and geriatrics (65+) and their families within the framework established by the correctional system.
- Utilizes effective communication skills by demonstrating respect, concern and courtesy in all interpersonal relationships.
- Attends appropriate in‑services and continuing education offerings to obtain and maintain necessary skills.
- Participates in offering education to inmates, security officers and other members of the health care team.
- Participates in in‑service meetings and educational programs either as attendee or as a teacher, as arranged and approved by supervisor.
Hourly rate: $57.01 per hour. Minimum salary: $59.01.

• Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing with a license to practice in the State of New Jersey.
• CPR Certification
• RN license in New Jersey
• Valid driver’s license and possession of own vehicle or alternative means of transportation from one site to another.
• Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum of one year of experience in a correctional setting preferred.
• Ability to perform CPR for at least ten minutes and lift/transport patients up to 50 pounds.
