OBGYN Physician & Practice Director

Direct Report: Medical Director

FLSA Status: Exempt/Supervisory Duties

Salary: $225+

Location: Northern, Virginia (Woodbridge, Manassas, Dumfries)

Qualifications, Education, and Experience
  • Doctorate from an accredited program.
  • Board Certified with a current Virginia license to practice with prescription authority.
  • Current DEA number, NPI number, and basic life support card.
  • Spanish-speaking preference.
  • Position Description

    The OBGYN Practice Director is responsible for the delivery of quality OBGYN patient care. The Director leads the OBGYN staff to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. The Director provides continuous guidance and training to providers and support staff and acts as a resource for providers treating high-risk patients.

    Provide care consistent with medical best practices and the policies and procedures of the organization. Protect the dignity, privacy and confidentiality of patients and their families. Possesses the ability to work independently and collaborate, when appropriate, with other Center healthcare providers to offer integrated care to patients of all ages.

    This position requires compliance with the Center’s Compliance Program and Standards of Conduct and applicable policies and procedures. Such compliance will be considered as part of a regular performance appraisal. Failure to comply with the Center’s standards, including the failure to report any conduct or event that potentially violates legal or compliance requirements, will be met by the enforcement of disciplinary action, up to and including possible termination.

    Expectations for Each Practice Director
  • Run the practice like a small business. This means setting provider expectations regarding the number of patients to be seen by provider per day (e.g., CMS guidelines) to:
    • ensure patients are able to access health care services and
    • ensure sufficient revenue is generated to support expenses and capital needs to not only sustain the practice but to lead the practice into the future to take advantage of opportunities to enhance the practice and potentially expand services available to patients.
  • Lead the practice:
    • Set the example for providers and support staff to mirror; the actions and the behavior of the practice director are always at the forefront and are critical to the success of the practice.
  • Manage administrative time to be comprised of two components: clinical and practice.
  • Clinical Administrative Time

    1 hour per clinic day to address patient notes/records/etc. It is 30 minutes after lunch and 30 minutes at the end of the day. For example, 4 days of a 5-day week are designated for working practice directors so each of the 4 days will have 1 hour of clinical administrative time.

    Practice Administrative Time

    8 hours per week, generally one business day, to address all matters related to leading the practice. Any participation in meetings as noted in item Q below should take place during the practice administrative time if possible; if not, then the time necessary to participate in meetings needs to be limited to 2 hours per month or less.

  • Provide oversight and on-going adherence to practice guidelines/protocols/procedures and staff development activities utilizing evidence-based practices. Provide continuous guidance and training to staff. Build and run an orientation, mentoring and training program for staff and new hires.
  • Participate in the development of Center policy, health center wide and practice specific, and proposal to the Board for consideration and acceptance. The Board sets all policies for the health center. It is the responsibility of directors, practice and administrative, to develop guidelines/protocol/procedures to implement Board policies.
  • Participate in the development, implementation and review of practice guidelines/protocols/procedures to ensure continuous improvement in the quality of care available and provided to patients.
