The Prince William County Public Works, Environmental Management Division, is actively seeking an experienced civil engineer with strong communication skills to assume the role of Principal Engineer. This position involves conducting senior-level reviews of land development plans, with a focus on grading, erosion & sediment control, storm drainage, floodplain studies, and stormwater management.
About This RoleThe preferred candidate should be an experienced civil engineer with proficiency in grading, storm drainage, and stormwater management designs, encompassing various aspects of civil engineering. A strong working knowledge of the principles and practices of civil engineering is essential. The ability to handle multiple projects with strict deadlines is a must. Superior communication skills are required, along with the capability to work at a senior level with minimal supervision.
$5,000 sign-on bonus offered.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 3 years of related (designing and/or reviewing land development plans for civil engineering) experience.
Preferences- Designing and/or reviewing Erosion & Sediment Control plans.
- Designing and/or reviewing land development projects concerning overall grading and the design of storm drainage systems.
- Designing and/or reviewing Stormwater Management facilities and Best Management Practices.
- Conducting, reviewing, and utilizing software applications for hydraulic and hydrologic studies.
- Handling Stormwater maintenance agreements and easements.
- Conducting and/or reviewing floodplain studies.
Either hold a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or have the ability to obtain one within the first year of employment. Also, possess or be capable of acquiring applicable Virginia Certifications in Stormwater Management (SWM) and Erosion & Sediment Control (E&S) within the initial year of employment.
Work Schedule:
Working hours are Monday to Friday, either from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm or 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Please note that telework is not currently available for this position.
$91,162.50 - $ Annually
This position offers a hiring bonus of $5,000, which will be distributed in two equal installments. The first installment of $2,500 will be paid after you have completed 90 days of employment. The remaining $2,500 will be disbursed upon successful completion of the probationary period.
