AboutThis Role
The Fiscal Specialist drives the financial health and efficiency of the Prince William Public Libraries through the accurate execution and stewardship of funds. This position is a critical part of the Financial Services Division.
Key Responsibilities- Accurate Fund Monitoring:
Monitor and reconcile assigned funds and program budgets to ensure complete accuracy, currency, and compliance with financial guidelines. - Transaction Processing:
Efficiently process a variety of essential financial transactions, including:- Purchase Orders
- Procurement Card allocations
- Staff reimbursements
- Budget adjustments
- Colleague Support:
Communicate timely financial updates and changes to PWPL colleagues (our internal customers) to ensure transparency and support informed decision‑making.
This is a highly collaborative and dynamic role where tasks are varied and require constant cooperation. We rely on this specialist to contribute to the development of efficient financial systems, focusing on processes that optimize the experience for our end‑users—the staff who make the library mission possible.
Minimum RequirementsHigh School Diploma or GED and 3 years of related experience in public sector administration or accounts payable.
Preferences- Experience processing transactions in financial systems or ERP platforms (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Workday, or similar).
- Experience interpreting and applying financial procedures in a government or public‑sector setting.
- Experience clarifying administrative or technical processes for internal customers and colleagues.
- Experience identifying process improvements for workflows.
- Experience working in a team environment where collaboration and customer service are essential to success.
The position may require travel to other branches within the system. A DMV check will be conducted for employees who drive while on County business.
Work ScheduleThis is a full‑time position, working 37.5 hours per week. The PWPL Administrative Services Center is open 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday – Friday and work time must be within these hours. This is a telework‑eligible role (1 day per week) that may revert to in‑office scheduling if business needs change.
Hiring Pay Range$28.32 – $34.50 per hour
