Overview

Supporting the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), the Systems Engineer SME role will serve as a senior technical resource supporting the design, development, and sustainment of secure, enterprise-grade applications for a government client. The engineer will work across development and operations teams to build resilient services using modern tool chains, Power Platform integration, and AI-driven automation frameworks that advance digital modernization efforts.

Responsibilities

and Duties
  • Design, develop, and deploy secure and scalable enterprise applications within Azure and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Build and maintain APIs and automation workflows leveraging Microsoft Stack technologies (.NET, Power Platform, Logic Apps, and Functions).
  • Implement and optimize CI/CD pipelines using Git Hub Actions, Jenkins, or Azure Dev Ops to support continuous integration and secure delivery.
  • Lead technical design reviews and collaborate with security and compliance teams to ensure adherence to federal standards.
  • Integrate automation frameworks such as Azure Automation and Power Platform to streamline operational processes.
  • Support and experiment with AI and intelligent automation technologies, including Copilot Studio, Agentic AI frameworks, and AI agent orchestration (e.g., AWS Bedrock).
  • Deploy and manage containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes for high availability and scalability.
  • Contribute to blockchain and distributed ledger initiatives where applicable to secure data exchange and improve auditability.
  • Collaborate within Agile Scrum teams using tools such as Rally to manage work tickets, track progress, and support iterative delivery.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise, mentoring, and hands‑on guidance to engineering and Dev Ops teams.
  • On‑call operational support as required.
Experience/Education
  • Minimum of 10+ years of hands‑on software engineering or systems development experience within enterprise or government environments.
  • At least 3 years of experience in Azure or hybrid cloud ecosystems.
  • Prior support of federal or defense programs strongly preferred.
  • Bachelors Degree preferred
Required Qualifications and Skills
  • Proven experience with Azure Cloud Services and cloud architecture design.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Stack technologies (.NET, Power Platform, Logic Apps, and Functions).
  • Strong background in Full Stack Development (.NET, Java, and modern frameworks).
  • Expertise with Power Platform connectors and custom API integration.
  • Experience with CI/CD automation pipelines (Git Hub Actions, Jenkins, Azure Dev Ops).
  • Skilled in automation frameworks (Power Platform, Azure Automation).
  • Familiarity with Copilot Studio, Agentic AI Frameworks, and AI agent orchestration (e.g., AWS Bedrock).
  • Working knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Understanding of automation testing methodologies and secure software development lifecycle (SDLC) practices.
  • Strong communication and articulation skills to effectively collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders in an Agile environment.
  • Experience working within Agile Scrum methodologies and using tools like Rally for sprint planning and ticket management.
Desired Qualifications and Skills
  • Experience applying blockchain or distributed ledger technologies in secure or compliance‑driven environments.
  • Strong knowledge of distributed systems, scalability, and observability best practices.
  • Familiarity with federal security frameworks such as FedRAMP, NIST 800‑53, or CMMC.
  • Experience leading secure operations and maintenance (O&M) initiatives or modernization projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply AI‑driven technologies for workflow automation or digital transformation.
  • Hands‑on experience within Dev Sec Ops  environments or continuous modernization programs.
Clearance Process
  • Must be a US Citizen, clearable at the Public Trust level. Clearance process is approximately 4‑8 weeks.
