Meat Manager – Safeway (Woodbridge)
Location:
Fairfax, VA. Salary: $55,000 – $65,000 per year.
We’re looking for a dedicated Meat Manager to lead our Meat Department in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment. This union position is bonus eligible and offers opportunities to innovate and contribute to customer service excellence.
Essential Job Functions- Provide high‑quality customer service in accordance with Safeway's standards.
- Oversee day‑to‑day operations and staffing of the Meat Department.
- Apply and enforce company policies and procedures, including food, employee, and customer safety.
- Review reports, identify successes and opportunities.
- Schedule, supervise, train, and assign duties to meat cutters and clerks.
- Follow division guidelines for merchandising, markdown, and pricing.
- Perform monthly inventory of the sales floor and backroom, ensuring accurate record keeping.
- Suggest changes to inventory and pricing.
- Write meat orders and check deliveries for accuracy and quality.
- Cull meat cases daily per division guidelines and inspect displayed products for expiration.
- Operate grinder, tenderizer, saw, and knives to safely cut, trim, and prepare meat products.
- Comply with internal and regulatory food‑safety requirements such as daily temperature and tare log checks.
- Create signage for displays and ensure pricing integrity.
- Take and fulfill special customer orders, providing special cuts.
- Adhere to uniform and grooming policy.
- Knowledge of and ability to process different cuts of meat.
- Previous experience as a meat wrapper/clerk or meat cutter.
- Prior department operations or staff management experience.
- Ability to operate saws, grinders, and other meat‑processing machinery.
- Computer skills to check communications, bulletins, and access reports.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to understand and follow instructions, read and comprehend guidelines, policies and procedures.
- Ability to multi‑task in a fast‑paced environment.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Self‑motivated to increase knowledge of Safeway products and share that knowledge with customers.
- Regular and predictable attendance; schedules may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Compliance with workplace conduct standards.
Typical demands include squatting/kneeling occasionally, bending/stooling occasionally, lifting/carrying continuously up to 35 lb, pushing/pulling occasionally up to 35 lb, twisting/turning occasionally, gripping/grazing continuously, reaching seldom, and standing/walking continuously.
