Math and Science Academy is hiring for a Long Term Social Studies Substitute Teacher for Middle and High School Classes to start approximately March 2026. Our Teachers are accountable for planning, organization, and implementation of an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential.

  • Required:

    Minnesota teaching license in academic area.
  • Reports to the MSA Middle School and H High School Principal.
  • Schedule:

    Student contact days, office hours, service requirements, and other days as assigned for professional development. MSA expects teachers present from 9am-4pm on student contact days.
  • FLSA:
    This is a long term substitute position. Daily rate of pay based on education and experience. Salary range is $41,369 to $87,518 (prorated, based on days worked).

Classroom Instruction
  • Promotes the MSA Mission and Vision in all communications and interactions.
  • Embodies MSA Core Values in daily activities.
  • Attends IEP meetings as requested.
  • Plans, prepares, and delivers lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
  • Develops schemes of work, lesson plans, and tests that are in accordance with established procedures.
  • Instructs and monitors students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
  • Uses relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Treats all students in an equitable manner.
  • Maintains a current website for all classes.
  • Manages student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures.
  • Maintains discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of MSA.
  • Updates all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, school policies, and regulations.
  • Utilizes proper students’ preferred pronouns and name(s) in class and when communicating with parents/guardians.
  • Provides timely feedback to students on all assigned work.
  • Prepares required reports on students and activities.
  • Participates in department, school, and parent meetings.
  • Communicates information to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Prepares the classroom for class activities.
  • Provides a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.
  • Observes and evaluates student’s performance and development.
  • Assigns and grades class work, homework, test and assignments.
  • Complies with all 504 and Individualized Education Program (IEP) accommodations and modifications for classroom students.
  • Collaborates with Educational Assistants on behavioral and academic areas of concern for students they support.
  • Supplies academic updates on students as requested by the 504 Coordinator or Case Manager in a timely manner.
Additional Functions
  • Demonstrates preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic, and ability backgrounds.
  • Attends and participates in 8 am Wednesday staff meetings.
  • Encourages parent and community involvement.
  • Obtains information for parents when requested.
  • Promptly returns phone calls and responds to emails.
  • Participates in appropriate professional development activities.
  • Monitors hallways before school, between class periods, and after school.
  • Participates as an active member in governance and service activities.
  • Participates in extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs and student organizations as directed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Required:

    Minnesota teaching license in academic area.
  • B.A./B.S. degree in teaching from an accredited institution or related teaching field.
  • Minnesota State certification/license in teaching in appropriate subject area.
