K-5 Multilingual Teacher / Literacy Lead Position Overview
The Multilingual Teacher / Literacy Lead supports the mission of the school by providing high-quality, targeted language and literacy instruction for multilingual learners while also serving as a key instructional partner in strengthening the school’s K–5 literacy program.
Approximately 75% of this role focuses on direct instruction for multilingual learners, progress monitoring, family partnerships, and MTSS collaboration. The remaining 25% supports school wide literacy leadership—including deep expertise in the school’s literacy curriculum, coaching teachers, supporting PLCs, and contributing to professional learning.
This position requires expertise in language development, strong collaboration, and the ability to balance immediate instructional support with long-term school wide coaching and leadership. Key Responsibilities Multilingual Learner Instruction (≈75%)- Provide targeted, evidence-based English language development instruction through small‑group and individualized support for multilingual learners across grade levels.
- Implement instruction aligned to WIDA standards, grounded in effective language acquisition practices and integrated with the school’s literacy vision.
- Use diagnostic tools, language proficiency data (e.g., ACCESS/WIDA), and ongoing progress monitoring to tailor instruction and track growth.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to support both integrated and designated language instruction and to reinforce vocabulary, oral language, and reading strategies within core classroom lessons.
- Partner with families to communicate progress, share strategies for language development at home, and strengthen culturally responsive relationships.
- Support the identification of multilingual learners, monitor proficiency levels, and maintain accurate documentation in accordance with state and federal guidelines.
- Maintain accurate student data records, including language proficiency scores, intervention plans, and progress monitoring.
- Participate actively in Student Intervention Team (SIT) and MTSS meetings to analyze student data, identify supports, and plan interventions.
- Support consistent, data‑informed decision‑making across grade levels, especially for multilingual learners needing additional literacy intervention.
- Help identify school wide trends related to language development and early literacy and support strategic responses to those trends.
- Contribute to the refinement of MTSS structures to ensure equitable and timely access to supports for multilingual learners.
- Support instructional coaching efforts in literacy and assist teachers in delivering high-quality core literacy instruction that meets the needs of multilingual learners.
- Model effective instructional practices—including scaffolding, vocabulary instruction, sentence frames, and structured oral language routines.
- Provide actionable, supportive feedback to teachers that honors their professionalism and strengthens literacy and language practices.
- Facilitate small‑group or whole‑staff professional learning aligned with school wide literacy goals, including language‑rich strategies and culturally responsive pedagogy.
- Share resources, research, and tools that support the integration of language development and reading instruction.
- Serve as a member of the instructional leadership team.
