Job Purpose and Summary

As a Pharmacy Technician, you will support the pharmacy team in delivering operational and service excellence within your store. Technicians are often the first point of contact to assist our patients and customers, ensuring prescriptions are filled promptly, safely and accurately, and that caring service exceeds expectations. They work under Standard Operating Procedures and best practices, contributing to a safe and inclusive culture.

  • Live our purpose by following SOPs at each workstation to help pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
  • Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (production, pick‑up, drive‑thru, drop‑off).
  • Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care through personalized moments at pick‑up, drive‑thru, and over the phone; provide immunizations and other services; solve or elevate patient problems.
  • Complete basic inventory activities (e.g., accurate medication put‑away, cycle counts, returns‑to‑stocks, waiting bin inventories) as permitted by law and directed by leadership.
  • Support a high‑performing team, embrace growth, seek feedback, and expand clinical and technical knowledge.
  • Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs, including traveling to market stores when required.
  • Comply with federal, state and local laws, regulations, professional standards, and ethical principles; adhere to CVS policies on patient safety, controlled substances and privacy.
  • Deliver additional patient health services (e.g., immunizations, point‑of‑care testing, off‑site clinic staffing) where authorized by law and training.
Immunizations
  • Obtain Technician Immunizer status by completing additional licensure and training per state regulations.
  • Educate patients about vaccine importance and refer to pharmacist‑on‑duty for vaccination questions.
  • Monitor and respond to adverse reactions; report events per public health requirements.
  • Collect, review and document patient information for each applicable patient.
  • Monitor and manage vaccine supplies.
Required Qualifications
  • Must comply with any state board of pharmacy requirements, including age, education, licensure and certification. If no age requirement, must be at least 16 years old.
  • If no educational requirement, must have a high school diploma or equivalent, or be actively enrolled in high school.
  • State‑level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state.
Essential Functions
  • Regular, predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
  • Complete required training within designated timeframe.
  • Attention and focus: concentrate on tasks, pivot quickly, confirm prescription accuracy.
  • Customer service and team orientation: look for ways to help people in a friendly manner; notice and respond to patient reactions.
  • Communication: use verbal and written skills, active listening, and appropriate questioning.
  • Mathematical reasoning: apply calculations for tablets, supply counts, bottle combinations.
  • Problem resolution: identify challenging interactions and select best actions.
  • Physical demands: mobility, standing, lifting, reaching, typing, stooping, visual acuity; lift up to 20 lbs (occasionally) and up to 10 lbs (frequently).
  • Any additional tasks as directed by supervisor or manager.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1–3 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
  • Willingness to work in the home store and across market locations to meet business needs.
