The Job in a Nutshell:

This role requires an outgoing personality and passion for sharing nutrition knowledge and inspiring people to act and achieve their health goals. You’ll wear many hats while working in a fast-paced retail setting conducting classes, private coaching sessions, community outreach, and retail operations (e.g., customer service, stocking shelves, cleaning, etc.). As the store’s nutrition professional, you will act as an educational resource providing science-based nutrition education/training to the store Crew, our customers, and the community.

This position is a front-line contributor to the Natural Grocers mission and plays an integral role in helping Natural Grocers improve the health and wellbeing of our communities. Through providing free nutrition education and helping people understand why their food choices matter, you will play an important role in Natural Grocers' commitment to creating a sustainable, just, regenerative food system where humans, animals, and the earth can thrive.

Main Responsibilities:

• Acts as the nutrition education resource for customers, Crew, and community.
• Provides customer service on the floor in the vitamin aisles (assists customers with product purchasing, provides education resources, etc.).
• Performs retail operations such as maintaining customer literature files, managing the book department, stocking and facing products, assisting with cleaning the vitamin department and store, and merchandising products.
• Provides nutrition education through in-store classes, outreach sessions, and regular training for Crew. Maintains the Crew Wellness Board and encourages Crew participation in nutrition challenges. Responds to questions and reviews summaries.
• Provides private one-on-one health coaching sessions.
• Builds community relationships with practitioner partners, guest presenters, event partners, etc.
• Seeks outreach opportunities to provide nutrition education and build brand awareness.
• Maintains continuing education requirements by reading research and completing CE assignments.
• Assists management in organizing and executing company-wide events.
• Prepares materials for classes, outreach, and coaching sessions and manages orders for nutrition education supplies.
• Trains Crew on promoting NHC services, in-store events, and promotions.
• Attends monthly meetings (webinars, regional and sales calls).
• Acts as an event ambassador for in-store guest presenter classes during floor days.

All employees are expected to be "hands-on" and flexible to perform various tasks to support the team and company.

Recipe for Success:

• A degree/certification in nutrition or a related field (e.g., dietetics, BS or MS in Biology, Biochemistry, Naturopathy).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, etc.).
• Excellent public speaking skills and confidence in delivering cooking demonstrations and nutrition classes.
• Ability to engage customers and promote events, services, and sales.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
• Self-motivated, team-oriented, and receptive to feedback.
• Passionate about providing nutrition education to employees, customers, and the community.
• Comfortable with retail operations such as stocking, cleaning, and checking product expiration dates.
• Friendly, outgoing, and approachable demeanor.

Maintaining Nutrition Knowledge

• If applicable, maintain continuing education requirements as per certification or degree standards. If not required, complete 16 CE hours (or two CE units) annually.
