Behavior and Wellness Specialist – Camp Greene Wood
We’re looking for a summer job that makes a difference. Join the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana 2026 camp staff today! Our Camp Greene Wood day camp is a place where energetic and passionate staff come together to provide a safe and positive learning environment for girls ages 5‑17.
Work CommitmentDates:
June 2 - August 1, 2026. Camp is closed June 19, 2026 and July 3‑5, 2026; these days are unpaid.
- Weekly: 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday‑Friday
- Saturday and Sunday off.
- Staff training week hours 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
- Special Overnight Week June 29 – July 1, 2026 includes a 2‑hour break on Tuesday.
- Pay: $145 per day.
- Mental Health First Aid and First Aid & CPR certifications (training provided).
- Access to GSGCNWI Employee Assistance Program.
- Must be 21+ years old as of June 14, 2026, with a valid driver’s license; 23+ strongly preferred.
- Loves to interact with children and has prior experience working with children of various ages.
- Enjoys spending time outdoors and has prior experience working in an outdoor setting.
- Certified in Youth Mental Health First Aid or similar MESH training (or equivalent credentials).
- 3+ years of relevant experience; ideally in a third/fourth year of or graduate with a degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Nursing, or licensed clinical social worker, psychologist, psychiatrist, or RN.
- Current First Aid and CPR certifications required.
- Proof of health history, clearing candidate for camp work.
- Willingness to live and work in an indoor/outdoor camp setting with irregular hours and limited technology.
- Help build a supportive environment for campers to grow, make friends, and try new things.
- Act as a member of the leadership team to provide teamwork & leadership opportunities, open communication, and encourage positive peer relationships.
- Assist in developing behavior management guidelines and positive behavioral intervention strategies.
- Support campers and staff with empathy, open communication, guidance, and encouragement; provide strategies for stress‑relief, self‑esteem growth, and de‑escalation.
- Provide individual and group support to address anxiety, anger, depression, conflict, morale, homesickness, peer pressure, relationships, self‑care, self‑image, stress, and more.
- Model problem‑solving, collaboration, and initiative, especially regarding mental/emotional health and self‑care.
- Debrief campers and staff after use of emergency action plan or other notable situations.
- Guide staff in managing camper behavior and step in when appropriate.
- Maintain health records, health screenings, and health care on site for campers and staff.
- Other duties as assigned.
