Responsibilities- Perform waived, moderate, or highly complex tests authorized by CLIA, Business & Professional Code Section 1204, and possess the skill commensurate with education and training.
- Adhere to laboratory procedures for collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
- Follow quality control policies and document corrective actions when test systems deviate from performance specifications.
- Identify problems that may affect test performance and correct or immediately notify the supervisor, Director, or Medical Director.
- Perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures using manual and automated methods in Hematology, Blood Bank, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, Immunology, and other disciplines introduced into the laboratory.
- Perform and document maintenance—daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed—on instruments and equipment.
- Review accuracy of patient results before releasing or reporting.
- Recognize age‑specific differences in expected results from newborn to geriatrics.
- Ensure proficiency testing samples are processed the same way as patient samples and that reporting precedes collaboration with other laboratories.
- Perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups as required.
- Assist in developing and maintaining laboratory policies and procedures.
- Adhere to all department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
- When a supervisor is absent, act as Lead Tech for the section or department during the shift.
- May be assigned responsibilities related to LIS and/or POCT.
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the department manager or director.
- ASCP certification or equivalent preferred.
- One year hospital laboratory work experience preferred but not required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological health science, Medical Laboratory Technology, or other educational requirements as specified by CLIA (42 CFR 493.1423).
- Current and valid state license if required by the state where the laboratory is located.
