An opportunity has arisen within Ultrasound departments at Worcester Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

Ultrasound in Worcestershire is sonographer led and as a result we are forward looking promoting career development with an appetite for change and improvement.

We welcome applications from sonographers who hold a PG Cert/Dip or BSc in Medical Ultrasound. We expect a minimum of obstetrics/gynaecology or abdominal ultrasound but would support further training if required.

Your base site would be Worcester; however you may be expected to work at any site within the Trust as the service requires. We currently provide an USS service at Evesham Community Hospital, Malvern Community Hospital & Kidderminster Treatment Centre which forms part of the Worcestershire Community Diagnostic Centre.

All WAHNHST hospitals utilise state of the art Samsung RS8

EVO equipment.

All departments cover a wider range of general, obstetric, gynaecology, some vascular and small parts USS exams.

CPD is encouraged and supported with regular cross‑county Ultrasound audit meetings and designated e‑learning/mandatory training time.

We offer a flexible working week with negotiable hours to suit both you and the department. Participation in our weekend/Bank Holiday ultrasound rota is expected but this is self‑rostered with flexible TOIL.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be expected:

  • To work as an Advanced Practitioner (sonographer) undertaking a wide range of examinations demonstrating excellence to a high professional standard.
  • To provide specialist information by performing, interpreting and reporting examinations as per departmental protocols; ensuring that reports are generated promptly and that any urgent findings are acted upon in the patient’s best interest.
  • To inform patients of their scan results when appropriate, within the standards set by the HCPC if appropriate.
  • Supervise and assist other appropriate personnel to perform their duties as and when required.
  • To have a flexible attitude towards the hours of work and participate in work and duties as required relevant to the directorate. To participate in any out‑of‑hours rota already established or established in the future.
  • To be responsible for workflow within the area of work ensuring that clinical requests are acted upon as appropriate.
  • Checking patients details prior to examination, ensuring that such details are present and correct on the request. (PAUSED and checked) To ensure that images are recorded and report issued with correct patient details.
  • To participate in management of waiting list by vetting examination requests in a timely and effective manner.
  • To be aware of personal professional development and to maintain a portfolio.
