Description

Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University is accepting applications for our  Canine/Feline Fellowship position in a community practice setting. This unique 2-year program is based at Tufts at Tech, an access-to-care teaching clinic that provides final year veterinary students with primary care experience and high school students the opportunity to achieve certification as veterinary assistants. The fellowship is designed to prepare a practitioner for the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP) specialty certification in Canine and Feline Practice.

See the ABVP website for more information about board certification.

Tufts at Tech Community Veterinary Clinic was established in 2012 as a collaboration between Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine and Worcester Technical High School to offer affordable pet care for financially qualifying members of the local community while providing an excellent learning environment. The clinic sees a variety of first opinion canine and feline medical, surgical, and dental cases as well as referrals from local general and emergency practices, with a caseload of approximately 6,000 cases per year.

The successful candidate will join a team of four faculty members, three certified veterinary technicians, three certified veterinary assistants, a client services liaison, and a community medicine intern. The clinic culture is a small family-type atmosphere with a positive focus on work/life balance and supporting each other's well-being.

The Fellowship would be an excellent steppingstone to pursue a career in academia or to increase one's confidence in managing difficult surgical and medical primary care cases. The Fellow will play a key role in case management, coaching Tufts veterinary students on their primary care clinical rotation and supervising junior and senior students in the Worcester Technical High School Veterinary Assistant program, accredited by NAVTA.

Opportunities to participate in specialty rotations are available at the main campus in emergency and critical care, soft tissue and orthopedic surgery, internal medicine, neurology, cardiology, ophthalmology, dermatology, anesthesiology, diagnostic imaging, behavior, and pathology.

Qualifications
  • DVM degree or equivalent and the ability to obtain licensure in the state of Massachusetts.
  • Minimum of 3 years of small animal practice experience.
  • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated interest in teaching.
  • Experience providing care for underserved communities and/or working with students is considered an asset.
Application Instructions

Applicants must submit a one-page statement of interest and qualifications, a current CV, and the names and contact information of three references through Interfolio. Please apply here (). The position is available for immediate appointment; however, the start date is negotiable. Inquiries should be directed to Dr. Greg Wolfus (Gregory.

Wolfus) or Dr. Kayla Sample (Kayla.

Sample).

The anticipated salary for this position begins at $90,000, commensurate with experience. Tufts University is committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation that reflects each candidate's experience, expertise, responsibilities, and performance. The pay offered within the posted range will be determined based on a variety of factors such as (but not limited to) the individual's education and experience, discipline, rank, internal equity, and budgetary considerations.

Cummings School is situated in Grafton, MA on a 600-acre pastoral campus, forty-five minutes west of Boston and next door to Worcester, the second largest city in Massachusetts. A virtual tour of the campus is available here. There is a regional rail service stop adjacent to campus and easy access to cultural and sporting events. The campus is a short drive from beautiful beaches, mountains, and other unique features of New England.

The area is a hub of biotechnology and higher education.
