Job Overview

We are looking to fill 2 new posts in our excellent Gastroenterology service, and are inviting applications from dynamic and motivated individuals to expand our current complement of 8 consultants.

The post is a general gastroenterology post in which contribution to the inpatient ward (WRH) and on call for endoscopy (WRH and AGH) is expected. There are currently 7 posts contributing to the rota which we expect to rise to 9 with the appointment of these posts. There is no commitment to on call GIM and the unselected take.

The new appointees would have general gastroenterology and endoscopy skills. Expertise in other sub‑specialty interests is encouraged, particularly nutrition, although most subspecialty interests can be accommodated including hepatology.

There are opportunities to contribute to the endoscopy academy. We have spoke status in the West Midlands endoscopy academy and have completed the build of a 5 room unit with teaching facilities in Kidderminster. There is capacity within the job plan to develop a teaching interest if desired with a view to contributing to the development of the endoscopy academy, teaching regularly in addition to JAG approved endoscopy courses.

Main duties of the job

Our trust comprises 3 inter‑linked hospitals including Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Alexandra Hospital (Redditch) and Kidderminster Treatment Centre. Successful appointees would be expected to work across sites with an in‑patient ward base at Worcestershire Royal Hospital. We serve a population of 600,000 and currently provide out‑patient gastroenterology at three sites and an in‑patient service at Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

ERCP, EUS, oesophageal and colonic metal

Track? stenting, complex therapeutic colonoscopy, VCE and bowel cancer screening are all performed. Weekly multidisciplinary meetings are held to review all cases of GI and HPB cancer. There are also monthly MDT meetings for IBD and GI pathology meetings. We have a dét 24/7 interventional radiology service for emergency drains and GI bleeds.

The service is currently supported by 4 IBD specialist nurses who manage the helpline for symptom management and the biologics service. In addition we have a Liver CNS and 3 nutrition nurses to help support the patient pathways further. We provide training for 4 gastro 정상 SpRs from the West Midlands deanery and also have a trust grade trainee in Gastroenterology.
