Locum Consultant Acute Medicine

This is a full‑time post for a Locum Consultant in Acute Medicine. Sub‑specialist skills and interests and areas for development such as Clinical Leadership, Medical Education and Research will be encouraged. You will work together with other members of the acute medicine team and colleagues at Worcestershire Royal Hospital as part of an establishment of 10.5 WTE Consultant Acute Physicians to provide high quality, compassionate and holistic treatment for patients referred or self‑presented to our Trust in the following areas:
The Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), the Emergency department and the Medical Short Stay Unit. Participation in GIM on call is optional but weekend cover (currently 1:7) is a requirement. 2 DCCs will be changed to specialist clinic activity if agreed with the successful candidate.

Job responsibilities
  • Provide a clinical service to patients of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust and General Practitioners.
  • Attend multi‑disciplinary meetings and work within multi‑disciplinary teams to deliver high quality clinical care.
  • Work across three sites and extend services to GP surgeries and health centres where required.
  • Support the A&E department and acute medicine to ensure timely and appropriate care and patient flow through the hospital.
  • Provide consultation and advisory service to clinical colleagues in the Trust and Primary Care.
  • Attend cross‑county and cross‑site meetings and collaborate with colleagues to deliver a high quality, timely service.
  • Participate in the on‑call rota to ensure that emergency and urgent services are provided out of normal hours, shared equally with Consultant colleagues.
  • Attend the hospital site for patient reviews when clinically necessary and be prepared to attend on‑call duty whenever requested by the medical and nursing team.
  • When undertaking weekend on‑call duties, attend the hospital to review patients.

Person Specification Personal Attributes
  • Ability to work in a team.

Teaching Experience

Research Experience
  • Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems.
  • Awareness of current specialty‑specific developments and initiatives.
  • Publications in relevant peer‑reviewed journals in the last 5 years.
  • Evidence of having undertaken original research.
Experience
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining (UK) CCT in General (Internal) Medicine or Acute Medicine.
