Senior Lecturer in Clinical Pharmacy

The Senior Lecturer in Clinical Pharmacy will play a critical role in the development, approval, and delivery of the clinical and prescribing components of the new MPharm programme.

The postholder must be a GPhC‑registered pharmacist and a qualified independent prescriber and will bring current prescribing expertise to curriculum design, teaching, assessment, and quality assurance.

This role is integral to the University’s successful completion of the General Pharmaceutical Council’s (GPhC) accreditation process for a new MPharm degree, providing assurance that prescribing‑related education is led, delivered, and assessed by appropriately qualified staff.

Appointment may be made on either a Teaching and Scholarship or a Teaching and Research contract, depending on the experience and profile of the successful candidate.

• Contribute substantially to the development of the clinical pharmacy and prescribing curriculum within the MPharm programme, ensuring alignment with GPhC Initial Education and Training Standards.
• Lead or co‑lead the design of clinical pharmacy, therapeutics, and prescribing aspects of modules, including learning outcomes, content, assessment strategies, and marking criteria.
• Deliver high‑quality teaching using a range of pedagogical approaches, including lectures, seminars, simulation‑based education, and practice‑focused learning.
• Ensure teaching reflects current evidence‑based practice, safe and effective prescribing, medicines optimisation, and patient safety.
• Support horizontal and vertical integration of clinical pharmacy with pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical sciences.
• Contribute to course approval documentation, validation events, and GPhC accreditation activities.
• Hold and maintain an independent prescribing qualification.
• Use prescribing experience to inform curriculum content, assessment design, and teaching delivery.
• Embed principles of clinical reasoning, prescribing governance and accountability, shared decision‑making and patient‑centred care.
• Act as a clinical and prescribing role model for students and colleagues.
• Contribute to academic administration, quality assurance, and enhancement activities.
• Participate actively in course teams, School meetings, and University committees.
• Work collaboratively across pharmacy practice, pharmaceutics, and external clinical partners.

• Maintain ongoing professional development in teaching, assessment, and (where appropriate) research.

• Engage in scholarship related to clinical pharmacy, prescribing practice, or pharmacy education.

• Maintain professional credibility through continued engagement with clinical pharmacy and CPD.

• Maintain an active research profile in clinical pharmacy, prescribing, or pharmacy education, with outputs of a quality appropriate for .
• Contribute to the development of research proposals and funding applications.
• Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects, and co‑supervise doctoral students where appropriate.
• Embed research activity within teaching and curriculum design.

• Please deliver a 20-minute presentation outlining your plans for developing the clinical pharmacy curriculum for the MPharm at University of Worcester.

• Please facilitate a 30-minute interactive teaching session on a clinical pharmacy topic of your choice, suitable for Level 4 undergraduate MPharm students.
