We are a specialist designer and manufacturer of bespoke high-pressure equipment. Based in Worcester, we have a modern factory, spacious offices, and onsite car parking.

We design, manufacture, install and service pumping solutions in both safe and hazardous areas for a wide range of industries. Our success is founded on uncompromising quality and the incorporation of the very latest technologies into packaged solutions to operate reliably in the most demanding environments. Typical project values range from £50,000 to £5 million.

We have an opportunity for an organised and professional Head of Engineering to join our team on a permanent basis.

Responsibilities

Through your team of Project Managers, Project Engineers and Designers you will own and manage a portfolio of bespoke design projects throughout the complete project lifecycle. In addition, you will manage the engineering of the company’s range of ‘Standard Products’ which include a range of pumping and vacuum equipment with responsibility for overseeing multiple concurrent projects at any one time. Your team will be accountable for the design, commercial delivery and technical performance of projects.

You will be responsible for the planning, control and coordination of multi-disciplined teams consisting of Project Management, Mechanical, Electrical and Documentation Engineers, and work with procurement and operations to ensure smooth delivery on time and to cost. Safety, reliability, documentation and procedural adherence are an essential part of the role, along with adhering to established procedures and Risk Assessment, and Technical sign off of projects including the completion of the Declaration of Conformity.

A sound engineering background involving complex electric or diesel driven rotating equipment utilising mechanical/electro-mechanical and hydraulic components functioning in safe and hazardous areas is essential. A proven record of initiative, innovation and inventiveness in this field is required.

An ability to inspire your team and keep an active insight of emerging technologies and markets that utilises the team capabilities.

Technical responsibility for all existing and developing products:

* Ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements concerning product design and its application

* Ensuring timely, safe and cost effective design and implementation of projects

* Identify and actively reduce any customer project delays

* Providing accurate project forecasting and reporting to the board

* Ensuring successful completion and closure of all projects including invoicing at the relevant stages

Management control of the engineering project and design team, documentation team, electrical instrumentation team, testing, installation, commissioning – including:

* Project engineering practices

* Design and drawing office practices

* Electrical and instrumentation development and workshop build

* Build documentation

* Project costing, invoicing, cashflow and meeting contract commitments

You will:

* Develop and maintain systems and records appropriate to these responsibilities

* Develop and improve the performance of the staff undertaking these tasks

* Identify and drive project based product development by continuous improvement of the build, project and design processes

* Develop existing and additional ‘Standard Products’ as required

* Complete any reasonable task requested by Senior Management

Requirements

* Significant technical and practical experience of a similar product range

* Experience with custom designed machines in a project based environment

* Proven ability to solve complex engineering problems within fixed project lead times

* Personal experience in developing multi-disciplined engineering teams

* Liaison and communication skills with internal and external representatives

* Academic qualification in a suitable field

* A good understanding and knowledge of p.c. systems (MSOffice & 3D CAD) etc.

* A good practical understanding of working within formal Quality, Environmental and Safety systems

* Be a very experienced, confident, multi-disciplined and qualified mechanical and/or electrical engineer

* Have a constant drive to try and find a better solution whilst minimising engineering risk

* Be aware of commercial and quality aspects of the business

* Be willing to travel internationally
