Senior Respiratory Physiotherapist

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced physiotherapist with a special interest in respiratory physiotherapy to join our Therapy Team at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

The post is for a Band 6 Physiotherapist working 18.75 hrs per week within the medical and surgical teams. The successful applicant will be required to work Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. The post will involve working across sites at Worcester Royal Hospital and the Alexandra Hospital rotating to different areas within the team every 8 months including Critical Care, Paediatrics, Surgery, Vascular, General Medicine, Acute Medicine, Respiratory, Cardiology, Respiratory Outpatients.

You will need to have previous experience of working within inpatient medicine specialties, demonstrate a good broad base of respiratory and complex discharge assessment experience and have the ability to manage a team of staff and students. We support students from Birmingham and Worcester Universities.

You will be able to develop management skills and work closely with other senior staff within the team.

The post also includes a commitment to the on-call service and requires weekend working as part of the on-call rota. You will also be required to be able to travel between sites.

Main duties of the job

Working as an autonomous practitioner, to provide high quality patient focused care through assessment, diagnosis, development and delivery of individual treatment programmes.

To take the responsibility for own caseload within a defined area of service or for a particular patient type.

To provide supervision, support and education to qualified and unqualified staff and students.

To participate in departmental audit in support of evidence-based practice.

To communicate with the MDT as appropriate to provide comprehensive assessment to determine admission prevention as appropriate to given speciality.

To undertake outpatient activity as appropriate within area of speciality.

To contribute to our 7-day service on a rota basis dependant on specialty of work. To complete on call over a 24 hrs period / complete weekend working as appropriate to speciality.

Job responsibilities

Key Duties:

Clinical:

To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of practice, including the management of patients receiving treatment.

To undertake clinical assessment, including risk analysis, of patients presenting with simple and complex/multi pathologies within defined area of speciality.

To be able to apply knowledge and highly developed skills from a wide range of specialties e.g. respiratory, neurology, musculoskeletal outpatients, care of the elderly depending on given area of speciality, underpinned by evidence.

To use advanced clinical reasoning skills and manual assessment techniques to establish accurate diagnosis.

To use judicious skills and comprehensive knowledge of physiotherapy treatments to formulate individual treatment programmes based on evidence of best practice.

To demonstrate a high level of skill in dexterity, co-ordination and sensory skills to deliver appropriate treatments selected from a range of physio therapeutic interventions e.g. normal movement, motor relearning, manual therapy techniques, respiratory techniques, use of NIV, exercise therapy, hydrotherapy and electrotherapy dependant on area of speciality.

To regularly evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment plan and adjust the treatment accordingly.
