An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Inpatient Vascular and Surgical Therapy teams at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, as a Band 6 Occupational Therapist, to work Full Time - 37.5 hours based at the Worcester Royal Hospital.

Our Band 6 Senior Occupational Therapists play a crucial role in our organisation. They are viewed within the Therapy service as potential clinical leaders who will receive investment and support to become the best clinicians they can. You will work as part of an integrated therapy team to provide OT assessment and treatment for a variety of patients situated on our Surgical wards, including Vascular, General Surgery and Head and Neck, as well as providing support and training to newly qualified therapists, therapy support workers and students.

You will also be working with and supported by a very experienced skilled workforce. These include our Therapy Service Leads and Clinical Specialists within our integrated Therapy service. Our service also has a Clinical Practice & Education Lead who works with our Band 6 clinicians, in developing robust training and development.

Main duties of the job

Acute management of multiple conditions including post operative vascular and general surgery patients; moving & handling; extensive equipment knowledge & provision; cognitive assessment; occupational performance; palliative & end of life care.

We are currently in process with an exciting AHP integration project within the Integrated Care System (ICS) aimed at streamlining and enhancing the roles of Allied Health Professionals across urgent and community care pathways. As this progresses, it has the potential to significantly reshape the structure and delivery of our AHP services. Job responsibilities

Job Purpose:

To provide Occupational Therapy assessment, treatment and discharge planning to patients within the acute service within the rotational specialty. This will include working within tight time frames for patient discharges.

To provide guidance and supervision to less experienced staff and students.

To take a proactive role within the integrated Therapy team, with the ability to provide advice or cover on other Trust sites as required.

To liaise with senior Therapists to ensure the smooth and effective running of the integrated Therapy service at an operational level on a daily basis.

You will gain mentorship and support from the Therapy Leads and Clinical Specialists across the specialties.

Key Duties

To hold an active caseload within the rotational specialty based at the Worcestershire Royal Hospital, Worcester or the Alexandra Hospital Redditch.

This will include assessment and treatment of inpatients and providing guidance on assessment and treatment for less experienced staff.

To provide advice/mentorship/supervision for band 5 Occupational Therapists and assistants and students carrying an acute caseload, with emphasis on but not exclusive to the rotational specialty.

To work closely with Physiotherapy colleagues, within an integrated Therapy Service, actively promoting the Therapy Way.

To take an active role in assisting to prioritise caseloads, to effect timely assessment and discharge.

To be actively involved in both direct and indirect supervision and teaching of junior staff.

To ensure that Therapy Service maintains high professional standards, using evidence-based practice whenever possible.
