Salary: £55,640 – £59,035 per annum
Hours: 35 per week
Location: Wildwood, Worcester
Team: Public Health, Maternity Early Years and Families
Employment Type: Permanent
Worcestershire is a fantastic place to live and work—home to vibrant towns, a heritage city, rolling countryside and a thriving cultural and sporting scene. While overall health in Worcestershire is strong, we face important challenges around health inequalities and improving outcomes for families. Your leadership will help tackle these head on‑on. You will bring extensive knowledge of early years health needs and services, including Family Hubs, and use this expertise to shape system‑wide improvements for families.
We are seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Public Health Practitioner with a deep commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of pregnant women, babies, young children and families across the Worcestershire population. In this role, you will support a wide range of health improvement, population health and health protection programmes spanning pregnancy, early years development, family wellbeing and the wider determinants of health.
A key part of your role will be driving forward Worcestershire’s ambition to deliver the Best Start in Life Strategy, ensuring every child has the strongest foundation from prebirth through the early years. You will bring extensive knowledge of early years health needs and services, including Family Hubs, and use this expertise to shape system‑wide improvements for families. This role requires a background in commissioning, with particular experience of commissioning the 0–5 Healthy Child Programme.
The postholder will support a range of commissioning responsibilities, including contributing to the planning, development and oversight of the local health visiting service to ensure delivery of high‑quality outcomes for children and families. You will work closely with Public Health leadership, members of the wider Public Health Team and colleagues across the County Council, and more broadly with NHS bodies, District Council colleagues, Voluntary and Community Sector organisations and communities.
You will apply Public Health skills and experience to improving population health, focusing on the wider determinants of health and delivery of Public Health Priorities. We are looking for someone who can demonstrate a proven ability to work across organisations to influence change, develop and deliver strategy, design policy and commission services that improve outcomes. You will take a community‑centred, asset‑based approach to coordinating local plans, programmes and service improvements—helping ensure Worcestershire achieves key government targets and continues to deliver outstanding public health programmes for pregnancy, early years and families.
We are looking for someone who can demonstrate a proven ability to work across organisations to influence change, develop and deliver strategy, design policy and commission services that improve outcomes. Please ensure your application clearly demonstrates fully how your experience, vision and passion for giving children the Best Start in Life aligns with this senior practitioner role.
