We have a rare opportunity to join the Surgical Same Day Emergency Care team at Worcester Royal Hospital.
The SSDEC is a fast paced environment which sees around 30-40 patients a day with the aim of assessing, treating and discharging within the same working day. You will look after acutely unwell patients with the aim being to reduce ED attendances and admissions where possible. SSDEC is multi-speciality, with General Surgery, ENT, OMFS, Vascular and Trauma patients being seen. Patients are referred from the ED, GP's and Ambulance Service.
The right person will be dynamic, pro-active and able to manage multiple patients y will work alongside a group of senior and experienced staff as a team, and liaise with other departments.
Main duties of the jobThe Senior Healthcare Assistants have extended skills in venepuncture and cannulation, ECGs and able to record basic observations. They greet the patients into the area, carry out the necessary investigations, escort patients for scans and investigations outside of the department and take care of patients' basic needs such as nutrition and hydration.

DBS Checks and CostsDBS Checks and Costs

Job responsibilities- Welcoming Patients to the unit
- Assisting with clerical duties
- Performing regular basic observations
- Collecting blood samples
- Insertion of venous cannula
- Escorting patients to other departments
- Maintaining the cleanliness and tidiness in the unit
- Providing food and drinks for patients when appropriate
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively, and demonstrate excellent communication skills: verbal, listening and written
- Be able to demonstrate an understanding of the concept of confidentiality
- Self-awareness in terms of assessing own knowledge and competence and understanding your own boundaries
- Self-awareness in terms of recognising the impact of your behaviour and other peoples behaviour
- Blood taking and cannulation

- Basic IT knowledge/skills
- Basic standard of education including Maths and English
- Experience of working in a patient care setting or customer facing environment
- Care certificate course or equivalent
- Experience of working in a healthcare setting
