Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide general medical services focussing on a wide range ofhealth needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of carefor all registered and temporary patients.

About us

We are a thrivingand friendly General Medical Practice, well established within the communitywith a growing Registered Patient List size of over 11,700. We have a supportiveclinical team consisting of three Partners, 4 Salaried GPs, a locum ANP,Clinical Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technician and a Physician Associate. In addition we have three Practice Nurses and a HCA. We also have supportivemanagement, administrative and reception teams.

The practice is an active member of Worcester City Primary Care Network, proudlyserving over 126,000 patients across the City.

Job responsibilities

The post-holder will manage a caseload and deal with a wide range of health needs in a primary care setting, ensuring the highest standards of care for all registered and temporary patients. The practice offer face to face, telephone and home visit appointments. We have pre-bookable appointments and on theday. There will be a requirement to contribute to extended opening appointments.

In accordance with the practicetimetable, as agreed, the post-holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing offrepeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence inan appropriate timescale. There will also be a share of On Call and Extended Hours duties.

Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whet herself-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.

Assessing thehealth care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.

Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.

In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols,developing care plans for health.

Providingcounselling and health education.

Admitting ordischarging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.

Recording clearand contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.

Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions.

Prescribing in accordance with the practice based system, SwitchScript (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.

Contribute to successful achievement of the Quality Outcomes Framework and to additional service obligations such as IQSP and Promoting Clinical Excellence.

In general thepost-holder will be expected to undertake all the normal duties and responsibilities associated with a GP working within primary care.

Other responsibilities within the organisation:

Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing,confidentiality, data protection, health and safety.

A commitment tolife-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice.

Contributing toevaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation.

Contributing tothe summarising of patient records and read-coding patient data.

Attending training and events organised by the practice or other agencies, where appropriate.

Other duties
