Senior Mental Health Practitioner – CAMHS Eating Disorder Services

Job responsibilities
  • Lead the assessment and management of children and young people with eating disorders and associated mental health conditions.
  • Deliver individual, family and group therapeutic interventions using evidence‑based techniques such as CBT, family therapy, and counselling.
  • Provide clinical risk assessment, develop safety plans, and manage an independent caseload within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Participate in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings and case formulation sessions.
  • Administer regular clinical supervision and support line management supervision where appropriate.
  • Support the development of protocols, policies and specialist practice areas for the service.
  • Engage in teaching, training and supervision of junior staff and trainees.
  • Attend and present at staff development forums, audits and quality improvement projects.
  • Work flexibly across Worcestershire and Herefordshire, travelling as required within both counties.
Qualifications
  • Post‑registered clinical qualification or equivalent at postgraduate diploma level or higher.
  • Current registration with a relevant professional body (e.g., NMC, HCPC, RSCN, RSW).
  • Specialty training or demonstrable competence in eating disorders and/or CBT, family therapy, or related psychotherapy approaches.
  • Evidence of current statutory competency and commitment to maintaining professional registration.
Experience
  • Extensive post‑registration experience in mental health care, including assessment, risk management and therapeutic intervention.
  • Experience delivering 1:1 therapy, family therapy and group work in community or inpatient settings.
  • Experience providing teaching, supervision and consultation within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop specialist areas and produce protocols or guidelines.
Skills & Abilities
  • Strong communication skills – oral, written and the ability to convey complex, personal information sensitively.
  • Expertise in establishing and maintaining therapeutic relationships with young people and families.
  • Effective team working, including challenging poor practice and supporting colleagues.
  • Proficient use of IT, electronic patient record systems and information‑search tools.
  • Time‑management, prioritisation and capacity to work autonomously under pressure.
  • Commitment to promoting patients’ rights, independence and choice, including informed consent practices.
Knowledge
  • Working knowledge of the Health Service framework and relevant statutory regulations.
  • In‑depth knowledge of eating disorders, related mental health conditions and appropriate interventions.
  • Familiarity with the Mental Health Act, safeguarding and risk‑assessment processes.
  • Awareness of professional guidelines and ethical standards for clinical practice.
  • Understanding of diverse communication styles and cultural competence when working with children and families.
Additional Criteria
  • Ability to meet daily travel requirements across Worcestershire and Herefordshire.
  • Capacity to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Awareness of personal strengths and limitations.
