Band 6 Resuscitation Officer

The Resuscitation Officer provides training and clinical support across the Worcestershire Acute Trust in basic and advanced resuscitation skills and emergency care. This substantive full‑time, band 6 post has become available as the service continues to develop to meet the challenges of today’s NHS.

Job responsibilities

Key Working Relationships:

The post holder will engage with the entire workforce, with the primary service users being patient care staff (all grades of medical, nursing and allied health care professionals). The post holder may liaise with consultant medical staff, senior managers and department managers in the delivery of the service.

Risk Assessment:

As a clinical practitioner, the post holder will follow trust guidelines in respect of known hazards using protective equipment and best practice at all times. Manual handling operations should be avoided or modified to ensure a safe system of work. The post holder will supervise staff simulating CPR and advanced resuscitation procedures; these procedures carry some risk even in a training environment (defibrillation, cannulation and manual handling) and appropriate supervision must be maintained.

Key Duties:

Practice of Resuscitation:

  • Carry a hospital crash bleep and attend emergency 2222 calls whenever possible subject to active commitments.
  • Visit wards and departments to advise and assess on emergency equipment and procedures.
  • Support and debrief staff involved in resuscitation emergencies.

Education: This will be the post holder’s key role.

  • Prepare and present lectures and interactive practical sessions to all levels of staff in adult and paediatric basic and advanced life support.
  • Prepare and present appropriate training to external agencies.
  • Develop knowledge and teaching skill in paediatric basic & advanced life support.
  • Maintain own knowledge and skill in all aspects of resuscitation.
  • Be lead instructor on in‑house and national courses as required.
  • Provide support training in courses allied to resuscitation.

Research & Audit:

  • Support the Trust Resuscitation audits.
  • Present resuscitation audit reports to the Resuscitation & Deteriorating Patient Committee if required.
  • Participate and assist as appropriate in resuscitation research.

Management / General:

  • Attend the Resuscitation & Deteriorating Patient Committee (DREAMs).
  • Represent Resuscitation Officer team as required.
  • Maintain training equipment to appropriate working standard.
  • Maintain knowledge of varieties and supplier equipment enabling recommendations to Trust staff.
Experience
  • 2 years post graduate experience in an acute care environment.
  • Demonstrable enthusiasm for teaching.
  • Experience in a critical care field (ICU, CCU, ED).
  • Experience as a trainer.
Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse, Paramedic or Operating Theatres Practitioner.
  • Paediatric Immediate Life Support (RCUK).
  • Willingness to undertake Advanced Life Support and European Paediatric Advanced Life Support courses (RCUK).
  • Advanced Life Support (RCUK) Provider or instructor.
  • European Paediatric Advanced Life Support (RCUK) Provider or instructor.
  • Recognised teaching qualification.
Skills/Knowledge
  • A sound understanding of the principles and practice of resuscitation of adults.
  • An understanding of the basic principles of paediatric resuscitation.
  • Able to work in a small team and independently.
  • Able to meet service needs at all Trust sites.
DBS Checks and Costs

Any applicants who are offered posts requiring a DBS check as part of their employment check will have the cost of this check (at the current rate) deducted from their salary.

Disclosure and Barring Service Check
