Senior Medical Secretary T&O

About the roleWe are looking for an experienced Medical Secretary to join our Trauma & Orthopaedics team at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. You will provide high‑level secretarial support to Orthopaedic Consultants and clinical teams, managing complex workloads and ensuring the highest standards of service.
Key responsibilities- Manage your own workload, including typing clinical and non‑clinical correspondence and using AI and IT systems to produce documents.
- Perform data input, scanning and maintain accurate records.
- Provide telephone cover, Outlook management and liaise with patients, clinicians and colleagues.
- Handle appointment and diary management, day‑to‑day administration and problem‑solving.
- Support service development and improvements, and manage patient care pathways, surgical requirements and overall department management.
- Current senior Medical Secretary experience in a surgical environment, preferably Trauma & Orthopaedics.
- Experience managing a surgical waiting list and working in a high‑volume, changing environment.
- Experience dealing with members of the public and creating clinical correspondence via digital transcription.
- Experience working with the surgical team and using AI tools such as Co‑pilot.
- Experience as a Senior Medical Secretary.
- Recognised secretarial or computer skills qualification.
- AMSPAR or C&G qualification or equivalent experience.
- GCSE (or equivalent) English and Maths.
- RSA Typing stage III.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Accurate computer skills and excellent telephone, verbal and written communication skills.
- Good organisational skills.
- Working knowledge of Allscripts, PAS, Bluespier, CLIP, V7, Microsoft Office and other NHS systems.
- Understanding of health and safety practices, policies and procedures.
- Ability to work effectively in demanding, high‑volume environments.
- Strong accuracy and attention to detail.
- Clear communication, treating others with dignity and respect.
- Flexible and willing to support the department as required.
- Positive attitude to promote a polite, comfortable and supportive working environment.
