Machine Shop Manager
Location:
South Birmingham Industry: CNC Machined components
We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Machine Shop Manager to lead our precision manufacturing operations in South Birmingham. In this critical leadership role, you will oversee the production of high-quality component's, driving operational efficiency, product quality, and team development.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage day-to-day operations of the machine shop, ensuring production schedules and output targets are consistently met.
* Lead, mentor, and develop a team of skilled machinists, operators, and technicians.
* Maintain rigorous quality control standards, minimizing scrap and rework while ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
* Optimize manufacturing processes, tooling, and workflows to improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) and reduce lead times.
* Oversee equipment maintenance schedules, coordinating repairs and upgrades to minimize downtime.
* Promote a strong safety culture, ensuring all health and safety policies are strictly adhered to across the shop floor.
* Collaborate with engineering, supply chain, and sales teams to deliver customer requirements on time and within budget.
Key Requirements
* Proven experience as a Machine Shop Manager, Production Manager, or similar leadership role within a precision manufacturing or component systems environment.
* Strong technical background in CNC machining (turning/milling), conventional machining, and advanced manufacturing technologies.
* In-depth knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T, and quality management systems.
* Excellent leadership and communication skills, with a track record of building motivated, high-performing teams.
* Strong problem-solving abilities and experience applying Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies (5S, Six Sigma).
* Relevant engineering qualification (HNC/HND/Degree) or equivalent time-served practical experience.
