Join the Canal & River Trust as an Ambassador and help to connect more people to our canals.

Your role will help to preserve our nation’s history and keep canals alive. You will have the opportunity to support some incredible events, be part of a supportive team network, and gain a new appreciation for our unique environment.
This is an opportunity to be the ‘face’ of the Canal & River Trust and the Unlocking the Severn project, playing a key role in the enjoyment of the visitor experience and ensuring visitors leave with a greater understanding and affinity to the River Severn.
You will provide an exceptional Visitor experience including guiding pre-booked groups around Diglis Island, the riverside at Diglis and the Fish Pass as well as supporting Fish Pass drop-ins, heritage Open Days and the Diglis Island Cafe. The role may involve opening and securing buildings. This is a great opportunity to work in unique locations such as the historic workshop, lock island and the innovative engineering of the fish pass.

You will meet new people, engage with variety of visitors from the local area and further afield, gain confidence through leading tours and share knowledge about local area.

Why we want you

Our Ambassadors help promote the value of our nations canals and rivers by attending events, being the smiling faces at one of our Welcome Stations, promoting our Share the Space campaigns and engaging with potential and existing supporters and customers alike. As an Ambassador you can help not only represent the Trust, but connect more people to our unique environment and raise awareness for canals.

Our Ambassadors are all about public events, specific opportunities when we invite members of the public to join us, learn more, try a new activity on the waterways and find out more about the Trust.

Our other events focused role (Waterside Leader) is for our volunteers who lead activities at events e.g. guided walks.

We have other roles which complement our Ambassadors by engaging with customers on a day to day basis, outside out events programmes:
Rangers, Lock keepers, Explorers, Waterside Champions and Youth Engagement roles.

What you will be doing
  • Attending other organisations’ events and taking the Trust to them
  • Giving talks in the local community to adult groups
  • Promoting the waterways in other ways in your local community
  • Helping at events at our museums and attractions to share our amazing museums’ collection
