Worcester Community Trust is a registered charity that runs six community hubs across the city. We provide facilities, activities and services for people of all ages and work with local communities and partners to help people feel connected, supported and empowered.
Vision: Worcester: a city where people feel connected, supported and empowered.
Mission: Bringing Communities Together by delivering services and activities for all.
Our values:- Collaborative - working together with local people and partners to achieve more.
- Inclusive - providing access for all, welcoming diversity and valuing uniqueness.
- Ambitious - valuing innovation and creativity and driving progress.
- Delivering Excellence - investing in staff, volunteers and infrastructure to provide high-quality services.
To lead the Domestic Abuse Champions Project in partnership with West Mercia Women's Aid (WMWA) to extend its work to develop the skills and capacity of community members as Domestic Abuse Champions (DA Champions) to allow them to act as 'first point of contact' for victims as they make disclosures and signposting or referring them to appropriate support. DA Champions are trained community members who act as a safe first point of contact within their communities or workplaces.
They raise awareness of domestic abuse, recognise the signs of abuse, provide information and signposting, and support individuals to access appropriate specialist services, while maintaining professional boundaries and safeguarding responsibilities
This role will promote Champion empowerment to be that first contact to support individuals while promoting professional boundaries throughout, including working to any professional working Champion's own policy and procedures for safeguarding within their workplaces.
Recruiting and training community champions from, or with access to, hidden communities with the delivery of a series of training modules focusing on training community champions in understanding domestic abuse, risk assessment and safeguarding - as well as knowledge of local support services, and of other services focusing on mental health, confidence building and resilience. The role is county-wide and requires regular travel across North and South Worcestershire to engage with communities, partners and volunteers.
There will also be administrative duties including a requirement to provide the content to Champions digitally primarily, or in physical formats upon request, with support available for larger administrative
requirements.
West Mercia Women's Aid's Ambassadors will work alongside DA Champions to further strengthen community awareness and engagement around domestic abuse. While Ambassadors primarily promote awareness of domestic abuse and the work of West Mercia Women's Aid within communities and organisations, DA Champions receive additional training to act as a first point of contact, identify concerns, provide safe signposting and support individuals to access specialist services
To provide support and guidance to all active or training DA Champions, and to gather data from them for contract outcomes. To utilise this data and relevant case studies to prepare quarterly reports to evidence the effectiveness of the Project to funders and commissioners.
