The Biologics Discovery Sciences group at Abb Vie are seeking an accomplished scientist who will make substantial contributions to the conception, execution and communication of antibody discovery strategies in a highly collaborative environment. A primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be to develop and execute research strategies to enable the discovery and development of therapeutic antibodies for Abb Vie’s core therapeutics areas.

They will be responsible for the design and execution of in vitro display technologies for lead antibody identification/optimization. In addition, it is expected that the candidate will utilize their expertise to generate internal and external collaborations as necessary to further program goals. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving antibody discovery programs within a multidisciplinary research group in an exciting, fast‑paced team environment.

• We are seeking an accomplished scientist who will make substantial contributions to the conception, execution and communication of antibody discovery strategies in a highly collaborative environment
• Implement novel selection strategies and build industry‑leading libraries for discovery and screening of therapeutic candidates
• Identify and solve technical problems independently, conceive and implement innovative research ideas
• Leverage expertise to develop and implement research to gain a detailed mechanistic understanding of the molecular pharmacology of therapeutic molecules
• Utilize computational skills independently and in partnership with AI/ML and Digital Transformation teams to amplify in vitro technology work and build into Abb Vie’s AI/ML infrastructure
• Provide project updates, analyses and advice to cross‑functional teams and senior management
• Present original work internally across departments and at internal and external scientific conferences; may author or co‑author peer‑reviewed scientific papers or patents
• Ensure consistency and quality of technical reports
• Ability to engage internal and external scientific leaders in collaborative research
• Serve as a biologics lead for cross‑functional teams, and contribute scientific insights into multiple projects across various therapeutic areas; recognized and sought out as an expert in discovery and engineering of therapeutic molecules

• PhD, MS, or BS degree in Biochemistry, Biochemical engineering or related disciplines with typically 0‑3 (PhD), 8+ (MS), or 10+ (BS) years of experience
• Hands‑on experience with in vitro antibody discovery display technologies (e.g., phage, yeast, mammalian)
• Extensive experience and up‑to‑date knowledge in antibody engineering and optimization (e.g., humanization, Fc optimization) best practices
• Antibody/ antibody fragment library design, construction
• Strong molecular biology skills
• Familiarity with sequence analysis tools (Geneious, Pipe Bio, Gene Data)
• Application of computational tools within in vitro workflows to advance efficiency
• Experience with flow cytometry
• Ability to explore and develop new approaches to further advance innovative in vitro discovery and screening technologies
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Team player with the ability to operate in a fast‑paced multi‑disciplinary environment with functional and therapeutic areas
• Adaptability to rapid changes in project priorities and timelines
