The Role

The Homeless Intervention Team is dedicated to working with 16- and 17-year-old young people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless within the next 56 days. The team consists of 2 social workers and 2 specialist family support workers.

The focus of the work is to support the young people to remain at or return home to live with their families where it is safe for them to do so. Where young people are unable to remain at home, we explore accommodation options, conduct assessments and identify areas where they require support to develop independent living skills for a positive move into appropriate accommodation.

Many of our young clients have experienced trauma and have additional vulnerabilities, making them hard to reach. The team supports them through assessment and, where applicable, Children in Need and Looked After Children services.

Qualifications
  • Passion for working with 16- and 17-year-old young people and their families and determination to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Tenacity, persistence, resilience and strong relationship-building skills with young people, families and partner agencies.
  • Understanding of issues faced by homeless young people.
  • Knowledge of legislation relating to homeless young people.
Benefits
  • 26 days paid holiday (pro rata for part-time staff), increasing to 31 days after 5 years.
  • Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS).
