ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to lecture in English and teach GCSE / Functional Skills. The successful candidate will have a wide range of relevant experience and will contribute to the expansion of the department as we strive towards becoming an outstanding provider of education and training.

You will have the ability to motivate and engage a range of students with inspirational and innovative approaches to English, and be able to deliver high quality teaching and learning using practical, real‑life scenarios.

Successful candidates will possess a Degree in English or a related qualification, or equivalent. Recent relevant teaching experience along with a recognised teaching qualification is considered advantageous but not essential, as full training will be provided by our teacher education department.

• Deliver high quality teaching of English to GCSE / Functional Skills learners.
• Motivate and engage students using innovative approaches and real‑life scenarios.
• Manage learner behaviour effectively in the classroom.
• Design, deliver, assess and evaluate curriculum aligned with post‑16 education standards.

• Degree in a relevant subject (essential).
• 5 GCSEs (including Maths & English or equivalent) (essential).
• Formal teaching qualification (Cert Ed/PGCE/BA Ed) desirable.

• Confidence managing learner behaviour.
• Strong communication and instructional skills.
• Ability to work under pressure, prioritise tasks, and meet strict deadlines whilst maintaining quality output.
• Proactive in taking action to achieve goals and secure positive outcomes.
• Ability to instill a strong sense of belief and accountability in staff and students.

• Demonstrated in‑depth knowledge of the subject area.
• Recent and relevant industry experience in the sector.
• Experience working within the post‑16/HE sector supporting learners.
• Experience in post‑16 education/training including curriculum design, delivery, assessment and evaluation.
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of safeguarding.
