The RoleAs the Senior Environmental Adviser, you will be the environmental lead on the project, working closely with the project team, stakeholders and supply chain to ensure legal and ISO compliance, strong governance, and excellent on-site delivery.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Undertaking environmental aspects and impacts assessments and identifying mitigation measures
- Developing and implementing the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP) and any project-specific plans (e.g. pollution prevention, waste management)
- Communicating requirements to site teams and supply chain, delivering briefings, training, and toolbox talks
- Managing environmental consents and permits, maintaining registers, and ensuring requirements are discharged to enable works
- Reviewing method statements and risk assessments to ensure environmental protection measures are embedded and implemented
- Supporting and/or implementing environmental monitoring (air, water, noise and/or vibration) where required
- Completing regular site inspections, reporting and closing out issues, and using reporting tools to identify trends and emerging risk
- Leading environmental incident response, investigation, reporting, and liaison with regulators where appropriate
- Supporting internal and external audits and helping to deliver commitments to recognised standards including ISO 14001 and BS 50001
- Building strong relationships with clients, local authorities and other stakeholders, representing the business professionally
- Producing guidance, alerts, reports on environmental performance, and capturing best practice through case studies
- Contributing to work winning activities such as PQQs and tenders when required
- Providing ad-hoc support across other UK sites/projects for audits, training or cover (with reasonable expenses covered)
- Proven experience in a senior environmental advisory role within construction, ideally on infrastructure projects
- Extensive knowledge of environmental compliance, legal requirements, and site-based environmental risk controls
- Proven capability developing and delivering CEMPs and associated environmental management plans
- Expert experience managing environmental consents and permits, including registers and discharge of conditions
- Strong practical understanding of environmental monitoring requirements (air, water, noise and/or vibration)
- Proven ability to influence site teams and supply chain, delivering training/briefings and driving consistent standards
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging clients, regulators and local authorities
- Degree-level qualification (preferred)
- Practitioner membership of ISEP (or similar professional body), and/or working towards an appropriate level of IEMA membership (or equivalent)
- CSCS card (essential) and SMSTS/SSSTS (desirable)
