Are you a passionate Speech and Language therapist with a keen interest in Voice disorders? We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled specialist Speech and Language Therapist to lead and continue to develop the Voice disorders service across North Cumbria. This is an exciting opportunity to develop their clinical and leadership skills within this specialist role and continue to link with ENT colleagues.
The post holder will be responsible for the highly specialist assessment, treatment, planning, delivery and evaluation of evidence based Speech and Language Therapy intervention to adult patients with laryngeal symptoms (voice change; persistent laryngeal symptoms).
This post will primarily be based at Workington Community Hospital but there will be a requirement to travel around North Cumbria to provide a service into the care homes across the north of the county.
The North Cumbria Speech and Language Therapy team is a small, friendly, supportive team with good opportunities for ongoing training. We have a well developed supervision and peer support system in place.

Job responsibilities- Conduct highly specialist assessments, planning, delivery and evaluation of evidence based Speech and Language Therapy interventions to adult patients with laryngeal symptoms.
- Develop and lead the Voice disorders service across North Cumbria, working closely with ENT and other relevant specialists.
- Provide clinical leadership, mentorship and training to the speech and language therapy team.
- Travel to care homes across North Cumbria to provide voice disorder services.
- Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintain professional development through training and attendance at conferences.
- Degree in Speech and Language Therapy approved by RCSLT.
- Registration with HCPC.
- Ongoing Membership with the RCSLT.
- Evidence of formal training/ specialist experience to Masters Level equivalently in dysphonia.
- Training in conducting and interpreting video laryngeal endoscopy.
- Membership of appropriate CEN.
- Ability to carry out and analyse the results of various assessments.
- IT skills – including word processing and access to software packages.
- Excellent skills in presentation and training of others.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent time management, organisational and administration skills.
- Effective use of telemedicine.
- Car owner.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the post.
- Promote equality and value diversity (Level
3).
- Experience of working within dysphonia to an advanced level.
- Evidence of leadership/management skills.
- Experience of working with adults with a wide range of communication and swallowing disorders.
- Good working knowledge of the treatment, surgical procedures and medical management carried out by other services relevant to SLT management of voice (e.g. ENT, respiratory medicine).
- Interest in developing skill in objective laryngeal assessment (e.g. VLE/stroboscopy).
- High level of knowledge of current national and local drivers, governance and risk relating to the delivery of SLT services to adults with voice disorders.
- Experience of driving change to improve service delivery.
- Evidence of leadership training.
- Experience of service development.
- Experience in conducting / interpreting video laryngeal endoscopy.
- Experience of working in a voice clinic setting.
- Experience of working with upper airway disorders.

DBS charges are as follows if applicable to the post:
- Standard Check: £21.50 + Administration cost of £6.50 = £28.00 – deducted from salary over a 4 month period or a one-off payment.
- Enhanced Check: £49.50 + administration cost of £6.50 = £56.00 – deducted from salary over a 4 month period or a one-off payment.
