We are seeking Registered Nurses and Paramedics to join us as Forensic Custody Healthcare Professionals
.
This is an opportunity to step beyond traditional healthcare settings into a rewarding role offering autonomy, variety and professional challenge. Working alongside police and criminal justice partners, you will assess, treat and support detainees, using your clinical expertise to safeguard welfare and influence important decisions.
No forensic or custody experience is required. We provide accredited training, support and a structured development programme to help you succeed in this specialist field.
As a Forensic Custody Healthcare Professional you will deliver high‑quality care to people detained in police custody, many with complex physical, mental, substance‑misuse or safeguarding needs. You will assess fitness for detention, interview, charge and release; respond to acute medical episodes; provide healthcare advice; support safeguarding decisions; and work closely with custody teams, police officers and partner agencies. You will also carry out forensic and evidential duties, including collecting and preserving samples and maintaining accurate clinical and legal records that meet professional standards.
Keyresponsibilities
- Conduct clinical and capacity assessments.
- Manage acute healthcare needs and emergencies.
- Support mental health, substance‑misuse and safeguarding needs.
- Collect and document forensic evidence.
- Maintain accurate clinical and evidential records.
- Work collaboratively with police, NHS and partner agencies.
- Attend hospital blood procedures under the Road Traffic Act.
- Prepare professional statements and attend court as an impartial healthcare witness when required.
- Full‑time, 42 hours per week.
- At least one shift per month. Shifts run 24×7 (06:45–19:00, 18:45–07:00) with paid breaks.

- Accredited forensic training and structured development
- Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration, or Paramedic with current HCPC registration.
- At least three years post‑qualification experience in an acute or relevant setting (e.g., front‑line ambulance, A&E, prison, custody or urgent care).
- Strong assessment, communication and decision‑making skills; confidence working autonomously.
- Calm, professional and compassionate approach with vulnerable people.
- Full UK driving licence with fewer than six penalty points.
- Ability to complete enhanced DBS clearance and police vetting.
- Full right to work in the UK and a minimum of three years UK residency prior to application.
- Willingness to complete externally accredited forensic training within the first year of employment.
