Our client is one of the UK’s leading waste and resource management companies, with over 200 facilities and 4,200 employees across the UK.
A vacancy currently exists for an Inert and Closed Landfill Supervisor to take responsibility for overseeing the safe and efficient operation of inert and closed landfill sites in the Cumbrian region. You will ensure compliance with environmental permits, SHEQ and IMS procedures, while delivering high standards of site safety, environmental performance, and customer service.
Main Duties:
* Supervising inert and closed landfill sites in line with environmental permits, IMS procedures, and O&M requirements
* Carrying out routine site inspections (daily, weekly, and monthly) to ensure safety, compliance, and operational standards are met
* Overseeing contractor activities on site, ensuring all work is completed safely and in line with company procedures
* Supporting the safe handling and management of waste, soils, and restoration materials
* Monitoring and reporting on site infrastructure including leachate systems, landfill gas, and site security
* Ensuring accurate recording of soil imports using systems such as GLADIS
* Managing inductions for contractors, visitors, and temporary staff
* Liaising with contractors, regulators, and customers to maintain strong working relationships
* Carrying out minor repairs and maintenance on site where required
* Promoting a strong health, safety and environmental culture across all site activities
Candidate Requirements:
* Previous supervisory experience within the waste or environmental sector
* Understanding of environmental processes such as landfill gas, leachate, and surface water management
* Experience supervising contractors and managing site-based activities
* Good understanding of Health and Safety practices and legislation
* Basic IT skills (email, Word, mobile systems)
* Ability to work independently and manage lone working responsibilities
* Willingness to travel between sites (company vehicle provided)
* Comfortable working outdoors in a range of conditions
* Flexible approach to working hours to support operational needs
* Full, clean UK driving licence
This vacancy is for a full-time position, working 5 days per week, Mon-Fri, 8am – 4:30pm.
